For a trip- YES

For hunting around the house or within a couple hours of home- NO

But no, I have never needed to use one.

My Dad did that a few years ago.

It was a Remington 700 30-06.

I asked him if it hit where he was aiming and he said " ya...5 times" lol

We always try to have someone bring one and did have a guy use mine once as his got knocked over and hit the scope pretty bad. He borrowed mine and told me it was a 1/2-inch off as he got a deer with it the next day and missed the heart by 1/2 inch!

I took a rookie to WY last year and he needed to borrow mine main rifle as he was having scope issues. It was more of an incorrect mounting issue. He learned a lot that trip and is raring to go again. I think he may work out for the future.
