You think Idaho Fish and Game would go with bonus points for additional opportunities to make more revenue? No, that makes entirely way to much sense. BTW, skunked again :(

Don't make your first post an angry one. It will bring you bad karma.

tttoadman. my post isnt angry, the icon is a frown - I really didnt expect to draw. (I have several other options to hunt which are outstanding prospects). BTW, therefore the bad karma doesnot apply:)

I would guess some great OTC opportunities for a resident with some access and knowledge of the area. good luck with it.

I know a couple years ago there was talk of starting a bonus or preference point system. Anybody know if that's still in the works or shot down?

Sounds like Idaho is still "all over the place" regarding implementing a PP or BP system. IMO they are overdue for a preference system.

I think I'll start a new thread discussing the likes/dislikes of preference points, bonus points and random draws that should stir the pot and get everybody fired up. Ikeepitcold needs some more stress as "SUPER MODERATOR" :p Maybe it won't turn out like the long range thread.

Why is everyone wanting preference points. You do know that Wyoming and Colorado are seeing point creep. Preference points hurt youth hunters as well as us that have been in the game a while. Guaranteed you will never draw all four trophy tags in Idaho with a preference point system. Plus why would you want to wait 10-20+ years to draw a bull elk or buck tag with the pp system. P Point systems are crap. You and I have an equal chance at drawing now. Why ruin that? For all of you wanting that system do your homework. They do not work. I want my 2 and 5 year old daughters to hunt. If a system is implemented that will NEVER happen.
IDFG should revamp the draws and make it a mandatory 2-3 year waiting period for antlered hunts and controlled bear instead of the 1 year as it sits now. This will do more good than any preference system.

Nothing in a random draw guarantees your kids will ever pull a tag. 2-3 year wait periods do nothing because the app pools are too big. Points won't work for top end units if you miss a year.
For some reason hunters think they deserve a tag, and a tag in the top units. it's not going to happen regardless of what system is used. Too many people wanting a few tags. 2000 apps trying for 10 tags doesn't take much math to figure nobody is getting a tag for a hell of a long time, points or no points.

i drew a 2% draw odds tag last year:D haha, will never happen again. i wouldnt mind the point system for trophy game, moose sheep and goat. but i like how its done now for elk deer and speed goats. non res will allays want a point system for a state they want to hunt but i think it works pretty well how it is now. you guys see the survey for what to do on elk hunts in Idaho? offering a c tag, u can pic an a &b tag, 2 a tags or two b tags in diff zones or units instead of only the one zone that is in place now. so i could do archery in dimond creek and in tex creek zones. or archery in dimond creek and rifle for cow in tex. i like this option. go to fish and game web site and take survey. the catch is u pay 30 extra for the other unit option. id do it and will.

waiting period

I agree on waiting between draws for antlered or horn species. This would definately help in the antelope draw.I know guys who have never drawn. We did well with late 32a mule deer, late 41 mule deer, some cow tags, and unlimited antelope.Larry

Unlimited Antelope is all I got.

I'm gonna start trying my luck for trophy species starting next year, I have pretty good general unit spots to hunt for elk and deer anyway so might as well try.
