A buddy of mine was getting pretty burnt out on hunting. We talked and I showed him my month by month break down. This way, I've always got something to work on and look forward to! Here's mine. Curious to see what others do!
January- finish plans for where to apply for Otc or easy draw tags
February- finish applications and draws
March- shed hunt, scout for Turkey
April- Turkey and Shrooms!
May- more Turkey and mushrooms!
June- find out what i drew, start packing for summer hunts
July- get way too excited for August and finish packing
August- summer hunt, prep for whitetail
Sept- whitetail
October- hunt another state, but close
Nov- uh, it's the rut
Dec- start looking into draws

Obviously there is a lot of other things are going on during this time, but having monthly goals helps keep me on track and always excited!

Every time I make a plan, the plans change.. But my year pretty much looks about like this:
January: shooting honkers
February/March: Canada's, snow geese, turkey scouting and shed hunting
April may: Kansas and Missouri turkeys
June/July/August: dog training, scouting and fishing
September: elk somewhere, Missouri teal
October: Missouri bow hunting
November: the rut! Greenheads
December: lots of greenheads

The wife a few days ago: "there really isn't an off season for you, is there?"
Me: "well, like February 15-March 1. And maybe a little bit in July"

My goal is to put 100 miles on my boots between January 1-Aug 20 (archery opener)
I work a ton but when I'm home my goals are:
January: spend time glassing winter grounds, observing buck/herd quality
Feb: start diving into Google Earth, glassing winter grounds looking for bucks that have shed, (if snow is gone) start shed hunting a bit with the kids
March: shed hunting pretty hard, getting some hiking in with the family up to about 5000'
April: birthday month, beg the wife for gear, start going through gear for repair/replacement, about this time I narrow my possible high country hunt areas down to 3 or 4 via google earth
May: snow should be gone up on top of the mountains, so I'll start putting in some overnight glassing trips with minimal gear, start comprising a "hit-list", possibly hanging a few cams
June: I shoot my bow 12 months a year at least every other day. around the first of June I'll usually snag some new arrows and adjust any sighting issues, more overnight glassing trips, and narrow down the areas I plan to stay the first week of archery down to 1 or 2
July:spending time with the family, but getting up on the mountain to watch my hit list bucks every possible chance I can.
August: i'll plan to spend the first 5 days of the archery hunt on the mountain at 8500-9000 ft. If I get lucky, ill find a deer that id like to hang my tag on before then. Im overly picky and have let several 130-140" deer pass resulting in tag soup
Sept-Dec: depending on the tag I may continue to bow hunt on the muzzy and rifle hunt, or i'll spend this time helping out friends that have drawn, following forums and (HOPING) to be waiting on a mount from the taxidermist

No, I need one. Everything I want to hunt is in September. A guy has to travel a long long way from Seattle to come across any decent hunting that doesn't have a million other dudes. Great fishing area. Crappy for hunters.
