Just waiting for 3rd season rifle to roll around - won't be long. What are your thoughts on crossing these mountain creeks seems like I run into them a lot and inevitably have to get across. Do you hike up then down looking for good crossing (seems like its always a hr to do so) or just pick a good spot to jump on some rocks to get over? Or does any one have some old tricks they use to get across them?

I got a pair of gaiters this year that I wear and that really seamed to help with crossing creeks. A good pair of boots will also help keep your feet dry when crossing.

Sounds silly but I take along garbage bags when I know I have a creek to cross that I can't avoid stepping in water that will be over my boots. Slide them over you boots and up your leg. Walk carefully across. After crossing, shake the water off and turn them wet side in and store them away in your pack for use when you cross back. Has worked for me every time...

^^I also do this^^ I always carry a couple large trash bags with me for various reason like keeping meat clean, makeshift poncho, wader bag, etc.

are you using the garbage bags to cross the creek that is over your knees when it is 15 degrees out?
that's a big creek! better use 2 bags per leg for that. if you walk careful and use a good bag they work great. i tie them at the top or electrical tape them but i try to find water around a foot deep to cross.

They have them on sale sometimes I paid around 40 for mine. When I'm in the back-country or wilderness I just don't trust garbage bags. Heck half the time I take the garbage out the bags rip

I think it all turns into the circumstances. I use mine for cold, deep, remote crossings where failure would suck big time. November backpack hunts type of thing. They will be going with me this November for my mule deer hunt. Big creek is a very big creek.

Always remember that whatever you cross or hop or straddle on the way to your spot, you might be successful. Then you gotta make the jump or crossing with a full pack of meet. Love the wiggys and trekking poles for crossings.

And Wiggy's is in Grand Junction, CO also I believe most the gear is made there. Its been mad dash when I've stopped off there didn't get to tour or chat.
