Last two weekends have been pretty darn good for predators in Missouri. Between my brother and I we have called in 15 yotes and one big Tom cat (which I missed....twice!!!) Last Sunday was a special day, called in 9 yotes between daylight and 11am...had a three pack run in on our last set but we had to head home afterwards. couple of the better pics, had a handful of shotgun kills that were not so pretty

Awesome job on the yotes! It has been hit or miss this year for me. Are they responding to mating calls right now?

Actually, we hit the same farms at least one a year, some twice...they need to be in the right mode and sometimes you just get lucky. About 10 days after a full moon is ideal, and two Sundays ago was even better b/c the moon was just rising at daylight.

we always start out with a cottontail distress (hand or foxpro) then go to howls or a couple barks. If that does not work our "Go to" is coyote distress....especially after you shoot one.

Last week we had one sprint in on a cottontail, we shot him and sat there for a minute. Another yote started barking & puffing at us so turned on the yote distress then held on....had three more run in fast....that is where the shotgun is priceless.

The other key is always setup where the yotes have to cross an opening or you can see your downwind trail. Our best stands force a yote to come out 50-100 yds into a field in order to get downwind, we like a cross wind. If we have three guys we setup two by the call and then one watching the down wind trail 50-75 yds away....that guy kills alot, like calling elk

Mating calls are great now, we lead with a distress then switch to mating calls. A couple weeks ago we had a big group calling back to a female in heat vocalization. They got hung up so like turkey hunting we moved to a new position, hit the call and three ran out of thicket into hay field....they got lucky though...about a dozen shot and zero reward!

247Buckfever, when you said you called in a big "Tom cat" are you talking about a domestic cat? I've predator hunted quite a bit in Missouri, but have never called in a domestic cat. Interesting.

No. no...bobcat...sorry. We have seen more bobcats in MO in the last three years than the last 20 years combined. The big Tom was the biggest bobcat I have ever seen, I have a trail cam pic of a really big cat near there, I think it was him

I see. Did you know that bobcat season closed on Jan 31 in Missouri? It's been that way for the past few years. Before that, it used to close on Feb 15. But that's been a few years ago.
