Hey,

I'm getting ready for a 3rd season mule hunt in Colorado unit 61.
If anyone has any advice as to what elevation, areas, hunter density or other details they could share
would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jay.

I will let you know how it went later.

Hey bud, head over to the new members section and introduce yourself.

There is a lot of country in that unit, A LOT! be prepared to move around and glass from high points. You can see a lot of country from the tops of ridges.

I would hunt low instead of high during the later deer hunt. I was up there 3 years ago during the muzzle loader elk hunt and didn't see a deer up high.

I just got back from my first rifle elk hunt and the deer were still up high. However, you can see a lot of the lower mesas from a lot of the higher ridges and locate the deer. I agree with Jim, third season the deer will be on the lower mesas. That is where I shot my third season buck several years ago.

Thanks for the reply and advice
I can't seem to find the new members section.

I have migrated over from another forum.
It seems a lot of us have.

Have hunted in unit 62 a few times and in 70 years ago.
This should be my 1st and last hunt in 61 as I am 63 years old.
I sure would like to have a good hunt and maybe find a nice mule deer buck.

Thanks again, Jay.

BigGameHunt.net since 2009.
I received a lot of information and some help prior to several hunts.
These forums are a godsend especially for the out of state hunter.
I'm from Illinois so scouting trips are out of reach.
Thank you all so much.
If anyone has any questions about whitetail hunting give me a shout.

I just got back from a 2nd season elk hunt in 61.
Spent 5 days in there. Most of the time I was glassing from the high points.
I saw one VERY nice buck up on top. Didn't see any others anywhere.
