So now that the system worked in your favor are you going to forfeit your points so others can get through the system now???

If they called me tomorrow and asked me for my points, I would gladly give them to them as long as they do that with every single person who also got a tag.

I still don't agree with their process and me getting a tag doesn't change my opinion of that.

With point creep being what it is it may be a good proposal that if you pick up a tag in a unit that requires X amount of points then you forfeit your points if you take the tag. But then what would that point total be would be the question. But I agree that if you have close to max points and you didn't draw that the tag shouldn't go to the first person that sees in on a list online.

Strictly speaking secondary draw, leftover day below:

Well to me that's simple, it would be the minimum PPs of what it drew out at in the primary draw. You forfeit that much or less.

Examples:
If the tag drew out at 12 points in the primary and made it to "leftovers" list and you have 0 PP's you lose 0 pp's if you get the tag.
If the tag drew out at 12 points in the primary and made it to "leftovers" list and you have 6 PP's you lose all 6 pp's if you get the tag.
If the tag drew out at 12 points in the primary and made it to "leftovers" list and you have 15 PP's, you should lose 12 of your 15 pp's if you get the tag.

Since I currently have 3 points, I would have lost my 3 points in the above case, but it would have been well worth it to save years of time applying for such a great tag.

Instead, I get to keep them. Their rules, not mine. I think what I have above is a very fair approach and it makes everyone have some skin in the game and it keeps people moving through the system. What impacts it would have on finances? I don't know.

I'm grateful to have gotten the tag. But I do wish things worked differently to be fair to everyone. IMHO the above is fair to all as it still allows everyone to participate.

Sure, it can be and has been argued that the current system is fair. It is to an extent, but it does nothing to combat the point creep problem that has been glaring all of us in the face for years.

I'm sure the newly formed CPW roundtable will come up with something brilliant for 2025. Hopefully it is something like what I had above.

FYI
CPW has already discussed many of the options above and rejected them.
It’s unlikely a hunters round table will change their minds any time soon.
They need to try harder.

And I'm not surprised. This is America and everyone wants something for nothing. lol

You have a lot of good ideas.
You should move to Colorado and help us out.
I'm more of an asset staying at a distance for now and paying 13X more for a license.

Just think of all of the good that money does for the children.

Utah had a problem like this with their preference points for deer tags. Applicants learned how to work the system to their advantage and hunt every year with good tags and still gain preference points.

They solved the problem by having the applicant's loose all of their accumulated points if they obtained any general season deer tag. It didn't matter if it was through the draw or off of a left over list, which there never was since all the tags were distributed through the draw.

Their problem is that with only around 90,000 general season deer tags hunters still need a few points to draw a rifle tag and muzzle loader and archery tags are not far behind

They need to try harder.
Be careful what you wish for…
CPW hasn’t approved some changes you’d like and they don’t approve every proposal presented to them.
If they did, you wouldn’t like that either, because a couple of months ago when they were considering changing Res/NonRes allocations to 75% / 25% a large portion of the Public Comments they listened to begged them to go to 90% / 10%.
So sometimes you should be happy they take a lot of time before making changes, otherwise they make have already gone to 90% / 10%.
