I got close to a bedded 5 point bull one year while deer hunting. Maybe 20 feet above him. I backed out of there and left him in his bed not wanting to ruin my deer hunt. Since then I've quit buying a elk tag...LOL!

I came over a rise in the sage brush early one morning and ran into this buck at 30 feet. He swapped ends and I shot him in the back of his head. The bullet came out just below his left eye. Luckily, it did not split the skull.

I used to have an apple orchard across the road from my place and it was always full of deer. I used to get depredation permits and always shot dry does. I always used my 25-06 and always shot them in the head. I have shot several at 20 to 25 feet. Not too difficult to do.

One year I let my buddy shoot one and it turned out to be a disaster. He shot it behind the shoulders at 25 yards. The deer jumped the fence and ran a couple of hundred yards, dying in the neighbors flower bed. Neighbors wife was a little upset. Had to give them the hind quarters and backstraps to calm her down...LOL!

I drew a LQ tag this year so was without a general tag, but did have a type-6 cow tag. I heard a bull bugling right at daylight, figured it would have cows with it. The wind was good, so figured I'd head that way and see...turned out being a lone 6 point and he just stood there at 75 yards raking a tree and bugling...not a cow to be seen. I decided to hunt a familiar ridge back toward the truck, didn't make it but 1/4 mile and saw an elk moving in the lodgepoles...walked right past me at maybe 15 yards, a small 5 point. I just kept moving down the ridge and peeked just over a slight roll in the landscape. Finally found a small herd of cows and shot the closest one, 25 yards below me with 7 RM and 160 Partition...my 50th elk. I shot form the 2 large aspens behind me, just over my right shoulder. I rested on the side of the larger aspen.

A number of years ago, I rigged up my 7 RM to shoot long range. Bedded, floated, new stock, started shooting 160 AB's, turret, new trigger, yada yada...and spent a crap load of time at the range. Was sneaking along, just below the top of a ridge looking below me on a North facing slope and this guy was feeding at 25 yards. Glad I spent all that time at the range and getting rigged up for longer shots, paid off big at 25 yards:

I'm crowning BuzzH the king of this thread! Awesome photos!

Was still hunting whitetail in some creek bottom with a good wind in my face. This guy never even knew I was there. 25 yards with 7mag 120 gr hand load. Dropped in his tracks
