Now that we are getting down to the wire on season openers, everyone is honing their gear to get the most for the least weight. As an alternative to battery powered devices that cannot always find a signal, I always carry an old fashioned signaling mirror. These were a staple at anyplace that sold Boy Scout equipment for many years. Nowadays, since the scout handbook teaches cooking on the electric range, they are not so easy to find. An old scuba divers trick is to carry a CD which weighs nothing, costs nothing, and is highly reflective. Good hunting and safe travels to all.

I uses to carry a CD to. I've never used it but thought it was a good idea. Lots of other shinny things now so I don't see the need anymore.

Emergency whistles and signal mirrors are permanent fixtures in my pack. They can be purchased at most sporting goods stores and online. Just do a browser search for (survival mirrors) or )rescue mirrors) and you'll get a long list of sellers.
