Considering a moose hunt in 2016 and looking at my options in Canada. Anyone on here have experience hunting moose up there? Any advice on who to book with, regions, or just basic information would be appreciated? I am looking for a decent bull...40"+.

Hilltop, I don't know if this is the type trip that you are looking at, but you may want to google "Thunderhook Outpost Camps" This is mainly a fly-in fish camp outfitter in Ontario (north of lake Nipigon). I talked to the owner at some length last year, but couldn't get my buds to pop for a hunt. You are flown into a wilderness area to a large lake, with fully equiped cabins for a week. Most hunting is done from boats, and the fishing is spectacular. Tags are guaranteed. This is unguided, but they do have guides available if wanted. He had a good rate last year (2.4K) because he had a few tags left just before the season started. These are the Canadian moose subspecies; larger than Shiras, but nothing like the monster Alaskan/Yukon.

With Ontario just make sure you check the tag situation. When I was looking at an outfitter they had a bull tag that was used like a party tag. ( 1 tag for two hunters) and there was cow/calf tags also. Just thought I would mention that so you ask in detail what your really getting.

I went on a hunt in Quebec last fall, there were moose shot in camp. Mostly small bulls, one 42" and one 56" monster that was the biggest they have seen up there. I would stay west of Quebec for the realistic chance at a good 40"+ bull.

My research is bringing me to Alberta and the Peace River region. This area seems like my best bet for a reasonably priced chance at a good bull. I have found that what Don mentions above is true. A lot of the economy/self guided hunts, are done by issuing only one bull tag for parties up to 4 guys. Not my desired hunt... I'll try to keep you guys informed in case anyone else is interested in a hunt like this.

Hilltop, I'm hunting out of Fort Nelson this September with Stone Mountain Safaris. I chose them not only for there reputation, but you can drive right to the main lodge.

It looks like an amazing hunt for big bulls... but unfortunately way out of my price range. I am looking at hunts in the 6k or under range. I have found a couple in BC that can do this but the drive is so much further for me. I can cut a days travel out and save a bunch of money if I hunt Alberta. With you being in CA, BC makes a lot more sense for sure. Please keep us posted on how your hunt goes.

You really need to get your priorities set before deciding where to hunt in Canada. Places like Alberta and Newfoundland have higher moose densities, but the bulls don't get as big. I got my 59" bull at an archery-only outfitter east of Thunder Bay. That outfitter doesn't offer non-resident moose hunts anymore. Moose density is lower in that area, but there are some really big bulls and numerous outfitters offer hunts for under 4,000. Best of luck, nothing beats staring down a rut-crazed bull moose.
