Thanks guys!!! Just got done cutting and packaging the buck up, then fried backstrap and biscuits -got that from my old days in TN hunting whitetails.

Sweet buck Arrowslinger. Gonna have to change your handle to Leadslinger...
Oh, well, if you'd of seen me during archery season, you'd understand my handle. Almost blacked out the sun with the amount of shooting i did. It was pathetic at best.

Lol...At least you had opportunity. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Keep slinging...

Great pic and an absolutely awesome high country buck. I'm sure know this but, be careful man. Hunting up high alone, with winter weather coming can be very dangerous. I hunt alone sometimes and I've learned the hard way, Sierra weather can be much worse than what is forecast and then, the bad weather can stick around much longer than expected. Make sure you can get back home no matter what.

I am jealous. Hunted Inyo alone over the weekend and I never saw anything like that step out. Great job! Be safe, enjoy the reward!

Nice Buck!!! We were up in D5 on the opener and got caught in the weather, we had to hunker down for a while until it passed. All we saw were two forks that were with a group of does, we passed on them, they were not worth packing out 7 miles back to the trailhead. Still a lot of deer between 8000 - 9000ft, my electrical foreman and his son tagged out on Monday in D5, east of Mt Reba.

Snow on the opener isn't quite what we expect in the Sierra Nevada's on the opener of rifle season, but i wasn't complaining. For the Cali guys, this is D3-5.

This guy was the biggest of 4 exiting the basin. At 285, i sent one.

A solid buck for the areas i hunt and one i'm very happy with....especially after eating tag soup with a limited archery tag.

After an hour he was in my pack. This was a solo backcountry hunt and with meat, antlers, and my full camp, i knew the 5.2 miles out would suck, and it did.

Best of luck to all those still at it!
What a great buck.... I've always wondered how a solo guy can get all that gear and meat out of the back country. Bottom line...its hard work but well worth it!! Congratulations from a Norcal guy who has to go out of state to get quality animals....maybe not. Thanks for sharing...
