Snow on the opener isn't quite what we expect in the Sierra Nevada's on the opener of rifle season, but i wasn't complaining. For the Cali guys, this is D3-5.

This guy was the biggest of 4 exiting the basin. At 285, i sent one.

A solid buck for the areas i hunt and one i'm very happy with....especially after eating tag soup with a limited archery tag.

After an hour he was in my pack. This was a solo backcountry hunt and with meat, antlers, and my full camp, i knew the 5.2 miles out would suck, and it did.

Best of luck to all those still at it!

Great buck. I bet the hard work it took to get him out makes it feel even more gratifying.

Congratulations Arrowslinger. Looks like that weather change here in CA put some snow on the ground and got the deer moving for you. Thanks for sharing the pictures and all here. Sounds and looks like a successful adventure for you. Awesome achievement.

Congrats on your buck! That pack looks heavy! The weather can do anything up there. I hunted some zone up high in CA years ago, I forget which one, and got caught completely off guard and unprepared by an early snow storm.

Congratulations Arrowslinger! That's a terrific California muley. With a 5+ mile hike with that pack, you certainly earned it! Thanks for sharing.
