My son is the lucky holder of the one Non-Resident permit for Cache Utah Bull Moose! We are really excited about his once in a lifetime permit, but now have a ton of work to do to show this permit the respect its due.
I am wondering if anyone would be willing to throw a few poiters our way regarding the area? Have hunted moose a fair bit, but never this South. Is the peak rut same as most areas, September 25th to October 7th approx? How hot is Northern Utah at the beginning of the season?
If you had this permit in your hand, how would you all hunt it?
Any help sure would be appreciated!
Thank you

fullcurl0.....You should take anything gon4elk tells to the bank.
If anyone one knows moose around here it would be him.

I would suggest the south side of Logan Canyon, from the top of Card Canyon to Peter Sinks.( Pretty big area)
I'm not much of a wheeler guy, but if got them, bring um. Lots of roads.

Good Luck

Hello fellow hunters, this year I finally drew out my moose tag for the Cache unit. After 25 points it's finally happening, I would love to take my step-son and 13 years old nephew along with me. So any help locating a shooter or tips of where to go would greatly be appreciated. Please send a PM my way, thanks!

Congratulations on your long awaited tag.

I can't help much since I have never been hunting on the Cache but from what I have read Utah's moose population is in the tank since these post were made 12 years ago. My advice would be to scout it hard and find a bull, but don't think that you are the only one that will be watching him. Find a couple more just in case.

Then shoot the first one that you will be happy with or be ready to eat tag soup.

Just as a FYI all but the original poster have been off of the forum here for several years.

My sons hunt was a great experience. Valley had a lot of moose in it that we had chosen. Opening morning relocated a bull we were certain had to be close to B&C we found a day or 2 prior. Put glass on him for awhile and decided even though it was the first morning, we couldn’t pass this bull up in a drought year. Camera rolling we set up on him and my son put a couple of well placed rounds into him at 275 yards. That was great, we were celebrating when another bull about the same size, crossed the valley in front of us at 70 yards, walked over to the bull and began to stomp and gore the dead bull for about 2 1/2 hrs! Only thing we didn’t try to discourage that bull to was slapping him on the butt. If I’d have had bear spray I would have tried it. Eventually the cow that was bedded with the bull when my son set up on him, came back over the hill and called. The bulls head snapped up and he was gone!
Amazing experience. My sons bull ended up going Boone and Crockett. So was the right bull to take.
