Black Hills Camp Fires

I am curious to know where you saw this. I know that with the current dry conditions and lack of snow that there is or was a fire ban in effect. However, most years campfires are allowed as long as they are contained within fire rings etc. From your other post, I assume that you are planning for the spring turkey hunt. With that in mind, I would assume that unless conditions are severe, that campfires would be allowed within the campgrounds etc. The stove in the tent should be excluded from the ban in the fact that it is contained and should have some sort of ember reducer. However, when it gets closer, I would call the Forest Service office to make sure.
Hope this helps.

For dispersed camping in the Black Hills on the SD side open campfires are not allowed as I understand it. I called the forest service but they were on furlough due to no budget being passed. Hopefully I can get an answer soon. Thanks for the input!

We never have fires in the Black Hills. It is just so dry. If I had a tent stove and a spark arrestor I might reconsider though.

If your coming out for spring turkey I wouldn't worry too much as long as it's legal. We typically have good spring moisture, the dry season usually begins in June and goes thru Sept.
