We cap the duck season off every year for the past decade with a weekend in the panhandle. Sandhill cranes are the primary target. This year was one of the best, coupled with some afternoon Eurasian dove shoots that got hot and heavy. 33 cranes 3 days in a row, dove afternoon one was 163 with 9 guns, afternoon 2 about 210 with 11. The shotshell bill wasn't cheap!

Cranes are delcious, more beef like in texture than a goose and one of the most "beef like" of the fowl.

We do not have band tails. We have whitewing doves and mourning doves, season was/is closed on both of those. All of these are Eurasian collared doves. They have come up from florida and are overtaking urban areas in Texas. No closed season and no bag limit, the challenge is finding a feeding field close to a neighborhood that you can shoot a shotgun in.
