Many years ago when I lived in southern California, I used to fish and hunt deer in the San Gabriel Mts. just on the northern edge of LA. There was a pretty substantial herd of Bighorns there. I was hunting deer one fall and heard a noise that sounded like someone banging big rocks together just above me. I worked my way up a ridge and there were 5 rams fighting. What a sight! I watched then for a few minutes and then they all looked my way and took off across the mountain, probably smelled me.
Several years later I was fishing in the east fork of the San Gabriel River and found a dead ram in the stream in a rockslide. There aren't too many left as the lions have really zeroed in on them. I also heard they had caught pneumonia from domestic sheep. Was pretty cool back then...about 40 years ago!
