Best Success Odds for 2015 WY Elk vs. CO Mule deer?

Had a moment to think about a 2015 hunt, and really wanting to harvest an animal, been on too many skunked hunts.

Have about 7 pts in each state, that's not exact but probably in the 6-9pts range for both.

I'd love to take a nice elk with a bow, but if rifle success odds would be much higher, I may choose that method.


Any thoughts on bow hunting elk vs. rifle? rut/bow vs. post rut/rifle perhaps?

Rifle success rates are always higher. That said, I think your chances at a public land big bull are equal or better with a bow since you typically aren't competing for space on the mountain. Big bulls are a low percentage venture in general so a guy has to weigh his options. If a bull on the ground is top priority, hunt with the rifle. There are many good areas out there that you can draw. I honestly would still consider area 7. It has lost some of its luster in recent years but it is still a great hunt IMO.

I would save those deer points another year or two...
