I'm really hoping someone else has this problem but every hunting season we struggle to find the best over the calf sock for my husband who has very muscular calves. He wears a size 13 shoe and every sock we've bought him (both in his size range and bigger) have been way too tight. Cabelas brand socks seem to have the worst calf fit, while klim the snowmobile company are better but still not the perfect. Anybody else out there with giant calves find a sock that's suited them well? Hoping to find a good midweight sock that'll work.

I e switched over to first lite socks and they are pretty good, but my calves aren't terribly big... Maybe just a bit bigger than normal. My dad does have freakishly large calves and has since gotten away from over the calf socks. He just buys lower socks for hiking or something and once his boot is laces up he folds the socks over the top of his boot to keep them off his calf. He wears a 15 and I wear a 13 so we know about the large foot issue too.

Does he have to pull them up over the calves?

No he doesn't necessarily have to pull them up over the calf, just prefers to wear them that way over folding them down

I'm also a size 13 foot.

This year I switched from SmartWool to Darn Tough socks. They hold their shape really well and have a lifetime no-questions-asked guarantee against wearing them out. Just bring them in to any retailer for a replacement.

I haven't tried them, but I would also look at the merino wool socks from KUIU.
