Backpack Hunting Stoves!

What do you guys use? We have been talking a bit around the office about which stoves we want in our packs for this coming fall and we have narrowed it down to these 3:

MSR Reactor 1.0 L
Jetboil Zip
Primus ETA Lite

Are we missing any of the major players that are similar to this? Any experience with these three models?

Those all look like good choices. I'm still using an MSR pocket rocket. Same thing I've been using for years. It's small compact size and weight keeps me coming back to it. I know some of the newer ones are more efficient and will cook faster but I've never run out of gas on any trip (yet), or was in that big of a hurry that I needed something quicker.

I hear you, my Primus Piezo has been working well for about 5 years now, hardly any reason to change at this point.

Which Jetboil models are you using?

I have been using a Jetboil Zip. I just picked up the MSR Reactor 1.0L. I have done some side by side testing on both in the house, outside calm and outside moderately windy. MSR is definitely faster. It usually boils in 1min45sec to 1 min 55 sec. The Zip is usually 2 min 30 sec on up. The interesting thing was the fuel use. Both used about 6 grams of fuel per boil, regardless of time to boil. I have not been in real windy conditions. I would expect the MSR to really shine there. The MSR is about 4 oz. heavier without fuel and a little bigger than the 0.8L Jetboil.

I toasted the windscreen on my Jetboil Sol ti. Worked great for many boils, then burnt up.

I have the snow peak gigs stove with the windshield. It has been alive for over 15 years and still going!! Starting to show signs of wear. I was looking at the MSR 1L but it is pretty bulky.

i have do a couple trips with a popcan but how do you get it to burn without a stand....i also just got a jetboil

Didn't have the cash for a jetboil a few years back and bought a pocketrocket. Absolutely love the thing! Can't beat the price and compact size. Never fails to impress.

A pocket rocket and titanium cup is all you need! Cheap and effective!
