I was able to make the long road trip(23 hrs.)from OR to AZ for my first ever Coues hunt. Until I reached my hunting unit I had never even seen a Coues deer. The fact that I had never set foot in the unit and this would be a solo hunt made for a little bit of nervousness. But still, I was like a kid at Christmas, as I headed for my new adventure. I was lucky enough to connect on a good buck that easily met the benchmark I had set for myself. These little guys are tiny; they are amazing little critters, perfectly suited for the tough environment they thrive in. I had a great trip, learned a ton and can't wait to go back. Next up is a Javelina tag that I drew for February. It is also the first time and in a unit I have never been to. I can't wait!:)

Congrats on getting it done, I hope that I am as successful.

I start my hunt on Monday for a coues. Like you it is my first time but I have seen them in a different area than the tag that I drew.

Thanks, and good luck on your Coues hunt! I can see why people get addicted to hunting these cool little deer. I'll be looking forward to your pics and story:)

Southern Arizona has plenty of rough country. Spent time there as a young man, and we have begun research for archery hunts in the years to come. That January one would fit our lives well.

Beautiful buck.

I agree, the country is rough and everything that lives there is tough. The January Javelina/Coues combo is really interesting, that's for sure. Good luck when you get down there, sounds like a blast.

Congratulations. This is a trip I was looking at this year but other things stopped that idea. Hoping to give it a try next year. Have enough points for rifle tag but wanted to bow hunt it first as a info trip. Nice buck.
