A buddy of mine drew a unit 7W bull tag. Somehow the draw system was screwed up and he ended up with this tag even though he didn't put in for this unit. Therefore, he is now on the hunt of any information regarding the unit. If you would prefer, a PM would be great.

Thanks, Graybird

What hunt did he draw, Early archery is much different than late rifle? I have spent alot of time in 7E, tons of elk in both E and W. Tons of hunters in E, though.

Tazhii that is a great bull. I've always thought of 7W as the upper end of the mid tier units. The late hunt will be a bit tough though. It averages about 35% success which isn't too bad for a late elk hunt.

When you said the draw system screwed up, did he apply online? Does he have a receipt to show the hunt numbers he applied for? If it is incorrect, there may be a way to get the tag changed.

Arizona will every now and then throw a wrench into the draws by changing hunt numbers on the applications. So you have to watch what you are putting in for.

I have a friend that had been putting in for a deer hunt forever that was near his home. Then a few years ago they changed the hunt number on him and he ended up with a tag down on the border. I have also seen it on my javelina hunts and have tags that have different hunt numbers for the same unit on them.

Wow! Nice bull for sure!

My buddy put in for 9 and 23 something. He had printed off his units applied for, so he knew according to his records, he hadn't applied for 7w. When he called the DOW they said they had him down for 7W, so who knows where the screw up happened. Anyway, it looks like he has a pretty decent tag. He had hunted the other units before, so he's back to the drawing board on trying to get something figured out in this unit.

Thanks!

At least he is hunting elk!! He shouldn't complain, do a little research & he should be in for a good hunt. There are elk in there!

Yup, that is what he is doing, hunting elk. No complaints and this thread is doing research. Anything else to add?

I took a 320 bull on this same hunt last year. Saw about 10 bulls a day, in the low country and up on the highest peaks in the snow. They are all over, put some boots on the ground in the biggest areas between roads and you'll find them.
