The danner full curl boots are on camo fire now, looks like they are making them like kenetreks, look about the same as the mountain extremes.

I just looked at Danner boots at bass pro yesterday and was disappointed to find only one model of Danner boots is still made in USA the 3 others on display were all made in china, that's what has happened to the quality. Maybe Danner will learn their lesson like Buck knives did when the started making their knives in china. I found out that Redwing boots are still made in USA.

Without question, the best boots that I have ever worn was Mendel Hikers. They are four years old now, and I wear them every day and use them on my early season DIY hunts out west. I plan to buy some Mendel hunters when my Cabelas insulated boots wear out. If you read in the catalog, the hikers, and hunters are "Made in Germany", while the light hunters are "Imported". They're not made in the USA, but quality of stuff made in Germany isn't in doubt. Proper fit is primary, and not every manufacturer make a boot that fits every foot. I would never buy a boot that I couldn't try on (both feet) and take a good walk in the store.

I agree with that "try it on in the store and walk in them for awhile" philosophy. The clerks have no problem with that, but to order them online or by phone, then wear them outdoors and expect a company to take them back is a little much. I very seldom even buy clothes without going to a store to try them on because even though stuff is marked a certain size it seems as they vary depending on the manufacturer. I'd rather know they fit when I walk out of the store than order something and then have to send it back.

Sorry to hear this. I had the complete opposite experience with Danner. I had 2 pair of Pronghorn boots that had a leak in the same spot. I sent in 1 pair and kept the other because they were pretty used and couldn't be sure it was their problem, but the sent me 2 pair back. I thought that was pretty nice of them.

Regarding customer service, I had to return 2 pairs of Cabela's Meindl boots to them over the course of a month. The first pair had defects and one was coming apart with little wear. The second pair was rubbing me in a particular spot (there was something wrong with the boot although you couldn't see it); I had worn this pair for 2 days mountain grouse hunting. Cabela's made the exchange both times and said "they were sorry for the problems". The third pair are the best boots I've ever owned and I hate that one day they will wear out! The moral to this story is that it is nice to be treated well (maybe better than I deserved) by a company. I'm not a shill for Cabela's, but I love good customer service and companies generally like good customers. Because they have treated me so well, they have a loyal customer...

Just got my new Danners delivered today and they feel great so far. (Made in the U.S.)

I got one heck of a deal on them after using my 60 percent off coupon.

I'm also done buying Danner boots. I had a pair of work boots fall apart on me after a few months last year. Work comp'd me a new pair and they started to fail after about 6 months. I had already bought a pair of high grounds last spring, and nowat this point most of the lower eyelets have town through and there are numerous seam leaks. I'm having them repaired at white sides this week and going to try to get another season out of them.

I have the Pronghorns aswell and whilst they were great on the flat floor they are terrible when sidling. Gave me cracking blisters and my foot was slipping to the side of the boot.
I worked out that the toe box was too high because of their design and the laces don't go far enough forward to enable that area to be tightened sufficiently. A mate has the same boots and had the same problem.
They don't seem to have very good ankle support either.
Emailed Danner and their response was basically 'your the first to complain so can't be our problem'.
I sent them comparison pics next to my Meindl's but they didn't want to help in any way.
Consequently I'll never buy another pair too. Which is a shame because they do make well priced boots.
Everyone's feet are different shapes so some brands just suit some people better. If they work for you then stick with them.

I have a pair of Danner Pronghorns that are 3 or 4 years old that have given me great service. I have put many miles on them and have had no problems. I would by them again.

Just sayin............................

I still love my pair of Pronghorns. About 1 year old right now and still feel great. I will say my feet have never been in a pair of boots costing over $250. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing? My wallet sure knows though.

I feel the same way about danner. I think there very cheaply made and never fit the same and are very uncomfterble. I think you can spend the same money and get a 10 fold better product.

Ive had medioker experience with danner boots.remember that danner pronghorns are good for general early seson hiking as they are a very flexible boot.usually they'll start leaking after a while so don't count on waterproofness past the 6 month warranty.pronghorns were made in china last time I checked a set but they generally were comfortable.Ive had some stiffer soled work boots from them and again, dont count on them being waterproof past the 6 month time,,,even if you hardly wear them.danners are not what they used to be,but would grade them as a middle of the line boot co.

The only company I've ever worked with that would accept a return on boots worn outside is Cabelas and that only applies to their branded boots. I sent a pair back and got a full credit for them after a season of hunting. Just didn't suit me.

I'm curious if the OP had his boots returned from danner? He mentioned sending them in and being denied a refund or exchange but no mention of whether he got them back.
