I took a week off work (aka rutcation) and hunted hard all week. It has been unseasonably cold with lows in the teens and highs reaching about 30 where I was hunting. I had a shot at a decent buck but missed. After a few minutes of WTF just happened I noticed the nock of my arrow was still attached to my bow string. I've never had that happen before and I use the same batch of arrows all the time during practice. I'm shooting gold tips. I have a few questions for you guys.

1. Could this have effected my shot or did I just miss?

2. Short of gluing the nocks, is there any way to keep this from happening? I've thought about maybe taking a drill bit and opening up the nock so it doesn't snap onto the string as tight. Perhaps the serving on the string is thicker than normal?

3. Could the cold weather have caused this?

thanks guys.

I've had this happen quite a few times. IMO I don't believe it affected your shot. I'm not a fan of gluing my nocks, just a personal preference, but I know a lot of guys do it. Usually I'll just use my finger tips and lightly spread the nock. Could be your serving was a little thicker or the nock was just a little tighter. I have had this happen in the colder weather and that might be the plastic is just a little stiffer and has no give. Like I said I've had it happen quite a few times but never noticed it impacting my shot. Maybe just a miss, damn it! Hope you get another chance. Good luck!!

I've had this happen as well. When I moved to South Dakota from Texas was the first time I had this happen. It was in the single digits when it happened to me. Basically your carbon arrow does not shrink in the cold like your nock will your nock shrinks onto your string and away from your arrow shaft. I just pulled all of my nocks out and put a small piece of toilet paper or paper towel around the nick and shoved it in. Fixed the issue. As far as messing with your shot I would say it is possible but only at longer distances. Under thirty or forty wouldn't mess with it much. Sorry about the miss. I actually just missed one this week too. Sucks

There are always nocks that fit tighter than others and the cold definitely shrunk your plastic nock when I'm hunting colder weather I make sure I use only nocks that I have to use that little blue nock tool to get them on the shaft fixed my cold weather issues, hope it helps you're

I say it's the gt arrows. I personally will not buy gold tips again. Inserts coming out all the time. (Never a problem before with my carbon express arrows) same bow shop glued both. Nocks popping off the arrow. GT Arrows splintering from just being shot. Also they break easier after hitting a deer; one and done. Just my experience with GT arrows.
