Goodness. Was that artery or heart. It didn't look like much penetration. But he bled out quick.

Holy cow! I've never seen anything like that. I'm glad it went good for him, but that shot should have never been taken at that angle.

That was on the net some time ago. It hit the jugular and I believe on into the heart. The arrow buried all the way to the luminok, so I fail to understand the previous comment about poor penetration. It's not a shot I would take, but some say the frontal shot into the heart/lung area is as good as a broadside shot. I'll leave the shot to them however!

Around second 34-36 it looks like more than a lumonok sticking out.. But I'll agree with the placement. It's a shot I would take in a heart beat. Multiple arteries, spinal, windpipe And behind that is the vital stuff. Definitely a more than lethal zone.

I would never take that shot. Too risky and don't know where to aim on that to get a confident hit. But if someone is comfortable then take it, just something I wouldn't do personally.

I've taken frontal shots with rifles before and never had but 1 run more than 15 yards (on deer). The 1 that ran was a poor shot to the side that hit between the shoulder and the vitals. That poor deer suffered until the next day when someone saw him on the property across the fence. I haven't taken a shot like that since. Frontal shots are extremely effective when hit in the right spot, but there is no margin for error.

I can say that is the most blood I've ever seen from a big game animal. Wow!

Wow, that's awesome! Looked like to me that the arrow was at least burried to the fletchings which I would say was good penetration. I've shot deer in the chest and have watched others make that shot as well and have never had to track one farther than a hundred yards. And the blood trail you didn't have to be down on your hands and knees either. I'd definitely take that shot again but on elk maybe not farther than 30 yds

I've seen that vid before and it's pretty darn amazing. I killed my first elk with a bow (mid 1980's) from directly behind the elk with a shot to the femoral artery. It looked like I was tracking the blood mobile from the swath of blood it left. These are very risky shots though and something I wouldn't do again. If you are off two or three inches to the side you have missed the vital areas and have a wounded animal.

I guess from what all the dedicated archers that have seen that video are saying, if you're up close enough and 100% confident that you can put that arrow between the front legs and on into the chest cavity it's obviously a deadly shot. I'm not in that category and would never attempt it!

I consider myself a good shot and competent archer. That said I won't take this shot unless I have an elk at extremely close range- say less than 20 yards and I don't believe the animal will offer any better shot. I think this video shows a best case scenario for this shot angle and any error will result in a wounded animal.
