Cam Hanes took a great buck in the Rubies with a bow a few years back. It was on the Eastmans show. He was way above the buck and dropped the arrow in thru the back and rite out the chest. Did you see that episode?

Thanks guys for the encouragement! I didn't see the Cam Hanes thing. I had never even heard of the ruby mts until I started looking into applying in Nevada this year. I just made up my mind to hunt Nevada one way or another this year! I have a lot of resources for info, this forum included...based on the reading and advice from friends and family, I think I'll have a really good time on this hunt, kill or no kill.

Is there cell coverage in the Rubies? May be solo and wanting to know for emergency/other half..
If that area doesn't have good cell service then buy the new delorme inreach. I got picked earlier this year to do a trial run with it and it's amazing. I was able to email and text my wife while I was turkey hunting deep into the Colorado mountains. Also it's got a SOS in case of an emergence. It also has a bunch of other features. It's a must have for a solo hunter like my self. The service is $10 a month. I look at like having life insurance and carrying a pistol. It's priceless when you need it.

It's still fairly expensive to use the inreach, unless you strictly use the "safety" plan and don't text more than 10 times a month. This would definitely save your bacon if something happened out in the backcountry though! Thanks for the tip.

I hunted the Humboldt Range last year...cell service was ok as long as you were high and had visual of the town of Wells. Lots of little bucks up there....started seeing the bigger bucks later in the evenings up high.

Can anyone comment on leaving your rig parked at trailheads or dead ends for several days unattended in the Rubies area?
I've never had a problem with leaving my truck at the trailhead.

Big bucks will be up high at timberline. Forks and spikes will be mid to low with does

+1 the biggest bucks I have seen keep to themselves. But plenty of 150-160" bucks grouped up together. If you find one just wait a few minutes and the rest will start popping up all over.

Calbuck, I have left my truck and on other occasions my ATV many times at the trail head for days at a time many times. So far no troubles. We have had a new surge in vehicle and ATV theft though that has come along with a growth spike in the Elko area due to mining jobs. We will see what this year brings. fatrascal.
