If another buddy and i have the same # of points and he wants to apply with me as a group, does that decrease our chanses of drawing at all compared to applying alone?

I think it depends on the state. I believe it's not a problem in Wyoming. It depends on how they do the draw. Some states will not exceed quotas.

depends on state.

some average your points and round up
some avg and then you have say 3.5 which is less than 4pts...

could mean you draw a tag or don't draw depending on state/unit.

and or your buddy would have drawn but now can't draw.

I haven't seen a state that averages and then rounds it up, most round it down. I also haven't seen a state that will give you fraction of a point going into the draw.

WY averages all your points, and will exceed the quota for the unit if you are drawn. Colorado is much tougher; you will go into the draw with the lowest number of pts. of all the applicants in your group, and they will not exceed the unit quota.
Example: I applied in CO with one other forum member in 2016... we each had 9 pts., so no penalty there. There were 8 NR tags for the unit and 10 applications with 9 pts. My partner and I were the two who did not draw. If we were one of the first 7 drawn, we would have gotten the tag, but if we were the 8th, it would have exceeded the quota and we would have been bypassed.

You will have the same odds if you put in alone or with a buddy with the SAME amount of points in WY. You have to have EVERYTHING the same on your app though, thats including 2nd and 3rd choices.
