anyone use a "GoPro, Ion, Kodak SP1, or Spypoint XCEL" for hunting?

I want to start video taping my hunting and fishing. Has anyone purchased a mountable camera? Which one do you have? Where do you have it mounted? I've read several reviews, and they all seem to have poor battery life which I think would be top priority on back pack hunts. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

I film hunts and we will run 2-3 gopro's at a time. I upgraded from gopro hero silver to the gopro hero 3+ black last year. IMO worth the upgrade. I mount them to bow risers, different parts of a gun depending on what shot I am going for. It the tree where ever I can. Have a head band and a chest mount as well. One cool thing about this camera is I can control it from my phone and see what the camera see's on my phone. I can run it up to 60+ yards away as long as its in strait sight.

Used a go pro mounted on a bow, was a little disappointed with it as it only seems to catch footage if it's very close to you. Shot an antelope at 60 yards last year with the camera on and you couldn't see the arrow hit the goat because it was too far away. Seems to only work good for targets up to 25 yards.

This is why I only use one for close up filler footage (if I use one at all) and use a camcorder for primary footage. Another thing about the Gopros is the audio is really bad to the point I don't like listening to the muffled sound. They do have a place but not as a primary video source on a hunt. Other problems are that there is some distortion and you cannot zoom in and out to get that close up video.

The new one 3+ blacks anyways there is no more distortion around the edges like the older models. Its also better in low light. Yes you can't replace a video camera that has zoom with one that has none. That's the reason they are called POV cameras. I only use them as second and third angle shots. nothing more than 10-15 yards away.

I still fought the noise distortion with my hero 3 black, even though it's not as bad as the older versions it still is crappy. Plus I've also found the go pros shoot in 4k which makes playing the footage hard if your computer can't fully process it. (Which mine can't) I still think go pros take great selfies though! I've considered just carrying my go pro around just for taking pictures, and there so small they don't take up much room and can be thrown into a pocket

I'm pretty sure you can change from 4K on the 3+ you can change to 780 or 1080 and different frame rates. Also when uploading the footage try and change the format.

I've got the Hero 3, and was really not impressed with how far away everything looks. I had it mounted on on my shotgun, and shot a gobbler from 9 yards, and the footage made it look like it was about 50 yards away.
I really like that I can use it remotely, with the iphone app, but battery life is very poor, and it's a bit cumbersome to get fired up quickly, so you almost need to leave it on the entire time..

I like the Contours, but heard that they went under. That form worked nicely mounted on a rifle/shotgun/bow/helmet. Sony has one out that I may try, the HDR-AS100V. Same form as the Contour, and plenty of accessories. Only question I have about the Sony is how well it records sound when in its waterproof case? External mic maybe?

eta: Just confirmed that Contour did go out of business, but was bought and brought back to life by a private firm.

My husband isn't confident I made the right purchase. He is usually right. :/ [[/B]

I don't know about other guys on here, but I have personally never heard someone say that her husband is usually right. hahaha
