I tried to check to see what hunt but results are not posted yet......it is either muzzleloader or rifle in Box Elder, Grouse Creek unit. Do not know much about the unit other than across the border in NV I tried to get my Pop on a 360ish 5 point, a 375ish 7x6, and numerous 300-340 bulls. Since it was a new hunt to NR, I figured what the hell.......only had 2 points, definitely didn't expect to actually draw.

It will only be your first choice. You won't draw your second choice like in Nevada. Do you know what your first choice was?

I don't know a thing about Box Elder, Grouse Creek. Here is the description from Huntin Fool this year:

"This is a new muzzleloader hunt for 2014. 300-330" bulls. Public land and private land. The habitat, other than private land, is mostly desert and subject to moisture. There have usually been only 2 resident tags available in the past. 2014 is the first year for a non-resident tag."

I know nothing as well, fortunately it isn't too far from me so I will be making multiple trips from now till the hunt.....pretty sure I seen a national forest section north close o the Idaho border so I might just start there.....need to purchase the chip for Utah and then get boots on the ground see what's what!

We've deer hunted in that area for years, it should be a fantastic hunt, just make sure you have some maps that show landownership. I'm glad it's the muzzy tag they'll be ruttin hard!!
If you want info on the Raft River Mountains PM me.

P.S. I'm only about 1.5 hours from that unit, if you need someone to come show you around, I could possibly work something out one weekend further down the road this summer. Wheelers might make getting around a little easier, lots of narrow trails that is really hard to get a truck around in.

Just an FYI you can check back door on the DWR site, and see if you were successful or in my case unsuccessful under your eligibility tab. Emails have started going out too.
