Antler Growth?

I got some photos of a bull on my trail camera on July 3. The bull's antlers seem to be very developed for so early in the summer. So, what are your thoughts? Will this bull gain any time length in the next month and a half, or is he pretty much done growing?

Growth looks normal to me for this time of year. He will probably be tapped out for length but should add a little mass. Seems to me that most growth is usually done by August 1st. Good bull though!

Good looking bull either way! I would still expect a little mass like JJ said!

I changed out my trail camera memory cards on Friday and was happy to see this bull is still in the area. He has added a little length on his fourths, fifths, and most noticeably on his main beams. These photos are from July 29. I hope I see him from my tree stand come archery season!

Great looking bull. I've never hunted elk let alone shot one but I'd imagine I'd be happy with a bull like that at any stage in my life. Long fourths. Wow! Hope you arrow him.

Dude! Nice. Id say you may have found his home area. I bet his wallows are close. Id be finding them for the opener.

This is one of several mature bulls in the area. I just started using trail cameras last year and I also took my first archery bull last year. I have several trail cameras out and got over 5000 photos in the last three weeks. Most of my cameras are on wallows and springs/seeps. There is a wallow from previous years in the meadow where these photos are from, but the elk haven't hit it yet. The bulls are just starting to wallow a little at one of my other camera/wallow locations. I counted 51 different bulls on my photos in the last three weeks along with many cows, calves, and spike bulls. I also tried tree stand hunting over these active wallows last year, my first time ever in a tree. It was hard sitting for long periods of time at first, but it was very productive! These are by no means comparable to the great bulls coming out of limited entry units in Utah, Arizona, or New Mexico, but for public land, over the counter hunting, I think they are great bulls! Archery season can't get here fast enough. I hope one of these bulls comes under my tree stand this season!
