This is one of several mature bulls in the area. I just started using trail cameras last year and I also took my first archery bull last year. I have several trail cameras out and got over 5000 photos in the last three weeks. Most of my cameras are on wallows and springs/seeps. There is a wallow from previous years in the meadow where these photos are from, but the elk haven't hit it yet. The bulls are just starting to wallow a little at one of my other camera/wallow locations. I counted 51 different bulls on my photos in the last three weeks along with many cows, calves, and spike bulls. I also tried tree stand hunting over these active wallows last year, my first time ever in a tree. It was hard sitting for long periods of time at first, but it was very productive! These are by no means comparable to the great bulls coming out of limited entry units in Utah, Arizona, or New Mexico, but for public land, over the counter hunting, I think they are great bulls! Archery season can't get here fast enough. I hope one of these bulls comes under my tree stand this season!
