Here is this issues Scoping it out with Guy. He talkes about cell phone photos. I spoke to Guy about cell phone photos and he said just for this issue there where 3 amazing photos that would have made covers of the magazines that he couldn't use because they found out they where cell phone photos and when they tried to blow them up the quality was so poor he couldn't use them.

Thanks for posting these. I always have my camera for pictures and am looking to upgrade that. I only use my cell phone to send a quick pic to family or friends of our success, but not for printing. I have tried printing pics from my phone and have noticed the poor quality, even though it looks good on the phone.

Good information here. Thank you for posting. My new cell phone has a very high mega pixel camera so I assumed it would be fine for everything. I had never considered the lens size before- makes sense.

Wow...you know it has been a decade or two ago, I was the main photographer for my high school year book, I even knew about different lenses that made or broke my pictures.

It never occurred to me my iPhone had less quality than published due to lens size....and I should have known!!!!

Next hunt that phone camera will not be used!!!!!!

I always have both. I like to take phone pics and send them off to friends. When it come to getting published and for that matter just blowing up my own photos it the camera. I always have my tripod and take my own photos out in the field. It take alittle extra time but it is so worth it!

I had a thought on a side note...

what about 1 page of cell phone photos or 2 pages of pics that couldn't have been used but still have a reason to publish...like a 2"x2" photo grid?

with everyone having a semi quality camera in their pocket these days, I would think so many more animal photos are being generated...
even if not magazine/photo quality.

ie... Id rather see a bad pic of a possible world record buck than no picture at all....or a story w/o a pic.

They can't be used if taken with a cell phone. The problem is that the glass, lens of the cell phone cameras are crap and when the photo is blown up to fit the pages of the mags they are blurred.

Camera photos are the only ones that will make it into the mags.

It's very understandable why they would like camera pictures only. They want to represent your animal in the best way possible. I never carried a camera into the field before but I will now because the pictures of my antelope buck I shot last fall with my cell turned out bad. I was pretty disappointed about that so I won't make that mistake again.

Ok :( thanks for the info. I didn't know anything about photo quality. Maybe the other guys from camp used a camera. If not, I might just post my story on here with a few pics. I already have it written.
Sounds great! We would love to see them and hear the story.
