When you all say you dropped an elk, are you doing a high shoulder shot and the elk is dropping in their tracks? Or are you meaning that you killed it and it dropped after running a little, with the shot being behind the front shoulder?

I have been using Sierra bullets for over 50 years in my deer and antelope rifles. They are now called Game King (used to be Spitzer) and have never had a complaint. if I do my part on placement, always one shot kills and almost immediately. On elk & larger, I always use a Nosler Partition with the same result as with the Sierras. Hard for me to see how all the new bullets on the market for big game can do any better. In fact some of them are very "purpose" designed and do a terrible job on big game. I used some Nosler Ballistic Tips in my .257 Wby that a friend gave me a couple of years ago in Wyoming on antelope. They absolutely exploded on entry and ruined a lot of meat.

I guess in "old school", I use what has worked for me. Dead is dead!
