Hey guys, I bought a .300RUM Sendero from a buddy of mine. He used it for 6 years in CO and came home with 5 muleys and 3 elk. That being said, he has been using the factory made Remington 150gr Swift Scirocco. He mentioned that he could never get 180gr ammo to hold a decent group but the 150gr were almost sub moa. I would like to try a 165gr factory ammo. Has anyone used a 165gr ammo? How did it do on muley or elk? Thanks guys!

I shoot hand load 168 gr barns ttsx will cut holes at 200yd zero if I do my part shot my last elk at 508yd with a pass though an one front leg broken did not find bullet the round will reach out there just a little heavy

I’ve used 165 grain corelokts out of my 30-06 for elk, worked very well. At RUM velocities I’d want a tougher bullet, like the swift your buddy used. Pick a 165 that is bonded, partitioned or monolithic and you should have a good combo.

If you can’t find a 165 gr bullet you like, try something in the 200 to 220 gr range. It might like the really heavy for caliber bullets more than the 180’s.

I use the 180 swift scirrocos and im not overly impressed with accuracy. Ive actually thought of trying 200 grain. 150 always seemed too light for an elephant caliber

Ya I couldn’t get them to fly for me neither, didn’t matter what I did.

I have two 700 LSSs in 300 RUM. One shoots sub-MOA 3 shot groups at 100 yards with Nosler 150 Ballistic Tips, 180 Balliatic Tips, 180 Partitions and 200 Accubonds. I couldn?t get the 168 Barnes XLC (blue bullet) to shoot well in it. The second one shoots sub-MOA, and sometimes much better, with 210 gr Bergers and 200 gr Barnes LRXs out to 500 yards, which is the farthest I have shot groups.

I would certainly try some of the heavier, higher ballistic coefficient bullets (190 and up) in the Sendero because if you can get them to fly for you, they will work much better at longer ranges even if your targets are only rocks. If you don?t reload, Hornady, Nosler, Barnes and HSM all offer heavy bullet loads for the 300 RUM.
