Good stuff guys. I made it a point to hunt the wife, with mixed results, and 2 of my 3 kids, could never get the daughter to try. I've never regretted it for a second, and have 4 grandsons to start in a few years. The wife and I agreed she is a once in every 10 years warm weather antelope hunter. We've made memories for life, even if none of us ever hunt again.
Speaking of regrets, there was that one hunt my oldest insisted on hunting alone, at 15, for two huge bucks I'd spent 2 months videoing and patterning. 35" 190 ish typical and a NT with 3 drops I'd guess 260+. Was the first buck tag for there in decades if not ever for this small area. He promptly drops a 23" 3x4 in full velvet, a real whopper, at least 135". I walk up, say that is not one of the big ones, didn't you see them 50 feet behind this guy? He says nope, but Dad this is my biggest buck...I say he sure is. 5 years or so later, I play the video for him, show him both toads... We laugh about it often.
Now at 33, he has the points to draw that tag again, we saw a 215 NT, and another 195-200 NT, a big 3x4 with trash close to 185 and 3 4x4's 26-28" 160-170 bucks there in Nov. We talked last week, he should draw and says again he is going after a big one, I said, I am going to be with you this time...
Hunt with the kids!
