2015 Draw ideas with 8 points

I am an archery nut but will suggestions on about anything...I have 8 points going into the 2015 Draw and would love some suggestions on a place where I can shoot a nice buck. I have a velvet 4x4 that scores in the 150's I shot last year (archery unit 69/84), a 196" archery deer shot by limon and another rifle buck shot in 69/84 that is a big 3x3.

I just want a unit where I can enjoy myself, take a buddy and shoot a good buck. I am willing to bust my butt to get a good buck. It has been a dream of mine since I was a kid to shoot a 180" high country buck. Where can I do this with 8 points?

I don't really dissect the NR PP draws that much since, as a resident, we don't have to worry about points for deer (yet) other than looking at where the max point holders are applying. What you can do is make a spread sheet of the last 3 years or so where people drew w/ 3 points in the Special and Regular pools and analyze from there. Narrow it down to 3-4 areas that look appealing based on if you'd want to put in the Special or not and concentrate your research there. Guessing how many points it takes to draw and area lately has been somewhat of a moving target with declining quotas, more & more publicity for certain regions/areas, and some other factors, but you can get a pretty good idea and adjust your strategy accordingly as harvest reports, quotas for upcoming seasons, and past year weather conditions dictate.

I am not particular really, I live in Kansas and hunt from a treestand 45 days a year. I really enjoy the high country hunting but as we know it is extremely tough hunting. The lower stuff is fun but that has its difficulty as well. I honestly just want a fun hunt where I see some deer and If I shoot one, then that is a big Bonus! I know there is not much of a chance for me to top my deer already but I might as well give it a try

I am really at a loss as to where to go with 3-5 points in WY right now. With all the tag cuts the last few years LE units that were in that point range now take more points, some take alot more points. The best option right now seems to to region G but it took more points this year too. I am really thinking about unloading my points in the next year or 2 so I can hunt some areas that I can draw every year.

As for CO I think there are some good hunts you can go on with 8 points. You might want to look into hunting with a muzzle loader. Tags are usually easier to draw then early rifle high country hunts. Some high country gets alot of hikers and that is something to look into when researching units. Go through the minimum points on the CO site and see what units you could draw to start narrowing it down. Good Luck!!

I would look into area 66,67,76 for archery can be an increadable high country archery or muzzle loader hunt.

Unit 55 archery is where the big boys are. Not for the weak of heart, but that is where I would go above timberline. A famous archer that kills monsters every year in Colorado are out of 55.
