Something's funky here. It says I'm successful on my elk tag, but it says they gave out over 2200 R type 1 tags when the total tag quota was 1500 for both R and NR.
According to the published reports, they mysteriously gave out 1000 extra elk 7-1 tags without any information going to the public. I'm going to be pissed if this holds up cause I'd of never applied there if I'd of known they'd crowd that area more than it already is!!!

So I finally got through to G&F headquarters, and the posted results for this area are correct. The lady told me that everything (i.e. tag quotas) are tentative right up until the draw date, which was news to me since I was of the opinion that once the Gov. signed the proposed quotas it was set in stone without an "emergency rule". The lady also mentioned that she wasn't given any reason for the spike in tags. I feel bad for the NR hunters that drew this tag after years of accumulating points to pick a year where the hunting pressure for bulls will, for all intents and purposes, be doubled. I'm sure they have some reason for doing this, but I fear it will set the area back trophy quality wise for several years to come.

I've also never heard such a thing and I see in deer unit 87 the Reg showed they were supposed to issue 25 total tags and today they only issued 9 to residents and none to NRs. This type of crappola is not like the way G&F does their work and I'd like to know what's going on. It's hard enough to try to figure out the draw stats and know where to put in for the best chance at a tag and then you see this come out! If I had put in and drawn elk 7-1 and then found out today an extra 1000 tags was issued for a unit that already has way too many people on the limited public land there I would be furious. Everyone with that tag better wear orange from head to toe down there on that hunt!!!

To add on to this, they didn't give out all of the tags in the quota for deer areas 89 & 90 either where they issued 38 of supposed 75 and 35 of supposed 50 tags respectively.

I am so happy that you helped talk me out of that area 7 Topgun. It is close to me, and lots of people go there from here, but that does not sound fun.

This just showed up on the results page:

"NOTICE - There has been an error with Resident Elk Licenses issued for Area 007-1.
Licenses were issued over quota. Therefore, some of applications appearing to be Successful were ACTUALLY UNSUCCESSFUL for this area. We will contact each individual affected by this error."

So, maybe I didn't draw.....WHAT A MESS!

Looks like they issued 2269 tags to residents, that is about 1000 too many. Bad "typo" entering the data into the draw system. That's 55% draw odds. How'd you like to handle 1000 angry customers?

I think whoever entered the data wrong, and the person responsible to proof check the data should get to field all of those calls.

I sure hope this does not mean there will be a delay in getting draw results next year.

I'm wondering how they're going to handle it. You'd think they'd have to offer some sort of consolation.
