2,960 day later.... finally going Elk Hunting again

It has been a little over 8 years since I have gone elk hunting! Leaving tomorrow...really hope all those years of preference points were worth the wait.

My last hunt in 2006 was cut so very short by a volunteer bull on a "scouting" trip. A friend and myself drove out for labor day weekend to scout for the rifle season coming up. We of course took our bows. The morning of day two found us in a bugling match with a nice 5x5 who was pushing a single cow. We worked this bull for over an hour before he finally charged in to 18 yards. He fell 50 yards later and my hunt was over almost before it began.

I am hoping for more of an adventure this time out... Here to wishing all good luck and have safe trips this month! I'll hopefully be posting pics at this time next week.

Good luck I don't know how you lasted that long. I am leaving for Wyoming Monday for a cow hunt I hope I tag out early so I can scout some new country for an archery hunt next year

Good luck HT!! I have been elk hunting a little more recent than you but it seems that long since I have killed one. Looking forward to seeing some pictures. Ill be heading out with my boys in about 1 1/2 weeks.

I know what you mean about it ending almost before it began. My 2 hunts in 12 and 1 in 13 all ended on the first day while I was really just scouting. While all 3 were great bucks and I would not pass up any of them if I could do those hunts over, I did wish they had lasted longer. This year I scouted for 9 days before the season opened so that couldnt happen! haha! Good luck on your hunt!!!
