Have you had others that worked on the GPS? It might be the GPS itself. You might also want to call Garmin.

I know on mine I just drop the chip in and turn it on.

You have to zoom in close enough for the map to show up. If it's an Oregon chip and you're in OR it should show, if it's for another state, you'll have to zoom in to a location.

I have that GPS and I also just dropped in the chip and turned it on. Works fine. Better call Garmin.
