UH - went back and checked.... Sure enough a point lower than I thought. For sheep in Colorado - not crushing with the draw system. Had 15 deer points going into 2014 draw and not too crushing difference since I've decided to hold for a few years for populations to rebound anyway. It's the elk that really hurts. Had 15 points going into this year. It will be uncounted additional years to catch up on area 61 tag (have already accepted NW corner is out of the question).

One reason that folks get huge a huge amount of points is that some hunters just like to get a point.

My father has 15 resident points for deer this year and he got another point. Yea that is enough to draw 44 - 4th or any other public land hunt he wants. He is not waiting for a rebound or anything else.. It is just he has killed so many big and other bucks in the units around Glenwood Springs where he grew up that I honestly think he likes bragging about how many points he has rather than adding another 200+ buck to his collection. Also to top his 220+ biggest will take a lot of luck and work in any unit and dwarfs any buck I have been fortunate to take

He jokingly says he is going to use all his points to draw a 1-2 point unit one year and shoot a forkey with all his grandchildren and I dont doubt that he will do it.

Everyone uses their points differently and for some folks just hunting with the grand kids all at one time it would be worth burning 17 resident deer points on a 1-2 point unit.

I came off the wait period for sheep in time to be in the max point pool (drew in 1988), but drew goat 4 years later and didn't get off the wait period until after the current point system started.
This right here, is the real key to successfully drawing tags, getting in on the ground floor!
