    Kodiak blacktail advice

You will love it, the flight over that island was incredible. It's worth the trip for sure.

Good deal, it's an amazing place. Every bit as brutal and beautiful as I'd dreamed.

    2022 Whitetail Success Thread!

I had to get a new computer, and then I had issues logging in. I'd ask them to email me to reset my password and never could find the email. Finally got it sorted out. It was probably something I was doing wrong, I'm not the best computer operator since I went back to the ranch full time and...

    Kodiak blacktail advice

Late, but I finally got my account back working on here on the new computer. We had a tough hunt but had fun. We lost some days to weather on the front side, and only really had one good hunting day while we were in the field. It's Kodiak, have to expect some of that. We made the most of...

    Your Best Buck!!!!

My best one just broke 200" gross. I hope to beat it this year (and every year) but I may never top this one.

Well it finally happened......I destroyed a gun.

Late seeing this, but glad you are ok! Had a pump shotgun blow up on me once, its not a fun experience!

    Where is everyone?

I haven’t had time to post much, work and kids have kept me busy. I do skim posts when I get a chance. I can do that one handed while one of my daughters sits with me in my recliner watching cartoons. Got to enjoy that while they are still little.

Preferred cartridge? Grip and grin pic added

25-06 with any good 100-120gr bullet is hard to beat. I mostly use 100gr Sierra Gamekings or Swift Sirocco’s. Both perform well, the Swift is much tougher but on antelope its not necessary. My next tag I’ll be packing my 264 win mag with 140gr Bergers. I love that rifle for antelope or deer in...

    multiple coyotes

Best I ever did was 4 off one stand. Called in a pair and killed them with the AR. A second pair soon came in to the Foxbang coyote distress from when I shot the first pair and I got them both knocked down too. Shot 2 standing, 2 running.

    Bear Gun?

I pack a 10mm in grizzly country. I have 3 of them now, a Sig 220, Sig Tacops 1911, and a Glock 20. The Glock and 1911 both needed a trip to the gunsmith to be reliable with hardcast ammo. All functioned perfectly with all the 180gr FMJ range ammo, or 180gr JHP ammo I tried. It was just the...

    Kodiak blacktail advice

We are planning to hunt mid-November 2022 to fit everyone’s schedules. The four of us will fly with a transporter and camp for our hunt. The decision of where we hunt will have to wait until we see how the winter’s go between now and then. Which transporter we use is another decision we are...

The 1 Thing You Learned- Rifles

I agree. I revise all my gear lists after a trip with an AT Revised version. That wayover time I eliminate items I carry but don’t use. I also do a what I learned section on the trip home in the rite in the rain notebook I use as a journal on each trip. Even if I don’t reference those later...

    Kodiak blacktail advice

We plan to quarter at the kill site, and haul the quarters and other meat in our packs. We will put the meat in game bags and those in contractor bags for the trip. That way we don’t have bloody packs after the first couple deer in bear country. We should not have the meat in the contractor...

    Kodiak blacktail advice

Thanks everyone. Good advice. We are planning to hunt in pairs for the exact reasons mentioned. At least to start with the two of us with the most experience will team up with one of the less experienced guys. We all grew up on farms or ranches and have hunted since we were kids. We all met in...

2021 new gear dreams and must haves.

I just got a used Sig 220 Hunter in 10mm found on Gunbroker. I would liike to fill a blacktail tag on Kodiak with the handgun if it works out, but I'll use the rifle if not. It's heavier than my G20 but I shoot single action triggers much better than striker fired.

    Kodiak blacktail advice

Thanks everyone! I am leaning toward the November hunt and camping as of now. We have an almost new Cabelas 6 man Instinct Alaskan Guide tent that I think would handle the weather if we find a decent spot to put it. It worked well and kept us dry last year hunting caribou. We'd probably...

    Kodiak blacktail advice

Thanks everyone. I was planning to reach out to you Akaviator, Corey was telling me you had hunted Kodiak before. Maybe if we end up doing an overnight stay in Anchorage we can buy you supper and hear some stories. I would not be against hunting later in November. That late would you still...

2021 new gear dreams and must haves.

I have waders too. I used Wiggys on my caribou hunt for stream crossings and will probably take them to Kodiak too. At 14oz for the pair it’s cheap insurance. I have Simms G3 chest waders I got for the moose hunt. They are good for hunts when I’m not hiking to far to fast. They are breathable...
