Ya I intend to be more aggressive in all my applications this year. Had a five year plan where I had one guaranteed tag/year on preference. But I’m afraid I better scrap that to cash 2 or 3 this year.
I am very seriously considering burning my 27 NR points on the Pauns archery tag this year. I'm 64 and my health is declining, heart failure plus 2 torn achilles, etc. All my Midwest hunting is via climbing Lone Wolf tree stands. Have some experience using this method successfully in the AZ...
There's already enough of a quality tag shortage without dad, I mean kid or outfitter entitlements. I have had my share of quality hunts, but I know a pile of tag-less senior sportsmen that deserve better. Kids should be cutting their teeth in general units. Absolutely nothing wrong with...
Huge relief! Took them until 9:48 pm CST but COPW finally hit my CC card for elk tag. Just cashed in the first big game point I ever bought, way back in 1996. Will be headed for unit 61 archery.
Got email confirmation Friday.
Yes and I turned 62 last season. Under the old Illinois regulations I would have qualified to use an xgun regardless of handicap, but I didn’t. I am just old school and enjoy the challenge of real archery. Contemplating getting a recurve actually.
Gun hunters are transitioning away to crossguns anyway, for more of the rut and much longer season. It went on for 10 years + here in Indiana. I have 5 guns, but am not a gun guy. I rarely touch them. 98% archery. I drew Illinois full firearm season public tags the last 5 years, and never...
I am not in favor of this, nor any other liberalization of firearm seasons. If for nothing else, it's a foot in the door. In fact I hate all legislators that stick their noses into wildlife management. That's the job of the DNR! You think any of these bill sponsors have any wildlife biology...
I quit supporting them after their ramrodding of crossguns into the Illinois archery season. Since when does defending 2nd amendment rights have anything to do with wildlife management? They need to stick to their mission statement.
Very sorry to the Hunter Mom for this tragedy.
One of the reasons 95% of my own hunting is via bow, to minimize the chance of encountering a bullet while in the field. I am looking at burning a lot of points on a CO archery elk hunt in 2022 but I am not happy about the overlapping muzzleloader...
Very sorry to hear this. Took me 32 years but was fortunate to make my shot. Surprised myself how stone cold I went holding my pin dead still at 28 yards.
First year I was able to take two Pope & Young deer. Nov. 3rd & 16th in southern Illinois. Including my dream buck. Didn’t draw any Western tags despite hundreds of points, but made up for it with an amazing deer season close to home.
I start mine as soon as my Covid furlough job ends August 1st! So I can use my work travel expenses. 😊 Will scout CO unit 61 elk after mid-September software training in Denver. Then will book some facilities in St. Louis when we go back on the road October 1st, where I drew a special archery...
“How'd your Hoosier turkey season go @Zim ?”
Tag filled at sunrise on day 2. Was too easy this year just drove around the property at dusk the evening of day one until I glassed a tom browsing. So I knew he had not been pressured in that spot. Other hunters prolly thought it was too close...
I just want to get my regular flexible job back in place of temporary Covid furlough job which chains me to a desk 8-5 daily. Since I didn’t draw any western tags I’ll scout my 2022 Colorado elk unit this September during a Denver business trip. Cashing 25 points next year so I want to scout...
I’ll only worry about it in advance of a scheduled Canada fishing trip in June. The reason being I contracted a full blown case of Covid November 9th and from recent reports there looks to be some long term immunity with it. But I won’t know if Canada will accept a positive test in place of a...
Well I came up snake eyes on both my Warner lope & deer hunts. The lope hunt may have been decent had I known the unit better. I saw two shooters in the high 70’s but gobs of dinks. Not worth the PTO days. The deer hunt was the equivalent of an OTC hunt in any other state. More detailed reviews...
