I am far from an expert, but would suggest that you go to a pro shop and shoot a variety of bows. I did that about 15 years ago, and bought the bow that hit the sweet spot for me. The newest and "bestest" is likely the most expensive, and may not turn out to be your best choice.

We have a lot of poplar in NE MN, and we commonly call it "popple". The proper name is aspen, both bigtooth and quaking. I suspect that your wood is a bit different though. Most of the commercial use is to make paper and OSB. Saw on.
