    Crawdad boil

Reminds me of when I was in the service and stationed in Texas. We used to catch a bunch of 'dads and take everything to make a "boil" and go to Padre Island for a weekend of camping on the beach. Lots of great food, brewskis and friends!

List your favorite game processors here

The Warden made me empty out the freezer and then he counted the packages and said he couldn't establish how many animals were in the freezer. I was working on butchering a doe deer when he came into camp and I didn't have evidence of sex on any of the meat I was working on. I guess he was...

List your favorite game processors here

First let me answer the question: ME You have to be really careful when you are processing your meat in the field. I usually take a 5 cu ft freezer and a small generator, a vacume packer and cutting tools with me when I hunt. I will butcher, package and freeze my meat at camp when I can. Many...

    220 Year Old Elk Antlers

There is a spot in central Wyoming that they did just that. Hells Half Acre near Powder River. Used to be a pretty good motel, campground, eatery and bar there, but all gone now. Just a roadside sign denoting the buffalo killing cliff. Spent many an evening there years ago after hunting, playing...

How do you scout for a late/2nd season hunt

The area I like to hunt late is a migratory unit. If the weather is warm, it will be tough. If we get a lot of snow, tons of deer.

    antelope doe/fawn tags

You really have to dig into the history a little deeper. Look at the total number of tags in the unit. The deer and antelope units I like to hunt have a lot less tags than they did 10 or 20 years ago. This year the type 6 tags were really low compared to previous years. I have been hunting...

    More Poachers

Farmers that are getting crop damage have to call G & F and report it. Biologists come on site and verify it is happening. The farmer gets a depredation permit to kill a definate number of animals and they are picked up to be processed and given to food banks, etc. Thats how it happen here...

    More Poachers

Really bad deal for sure. We have some poachers around here. Usually just before hunting season opens, a lot of the nice buck deer just disappear, never seen again. I think the land owners are poaching them.

    2020 Fawns

Just finished drinking my morning coffee on my deck and watching our local group of deer (usually 30 to 40) move to their daily bedding area. They feed all night near my place and usually stop for a drink at my pond before bedding down. This year there seem to be fewer fawns than I normally...

    Colorado Grizzly Creek Fire

Like I stated in another post, the national forests here in SW Colorado are packed with people. In 20 years, I've never seen it like this. Hope it doesn't happen!

    Colorado Grizzly Creek Fire

Down here in SW Colorado we have been pretty lucky. Most fires at this time of the year are started by lightning and we have had a couple that were handled pretty fast. Monsoons have been almost non existent for the last month. No monsoons....no lightning.
