    Outside shooting

Our small town has an ordinance against shooting a bow in the city limits unless it is an approved deer "cull hunt." As a police officer I was called by a neighbor reporting a dangerous activity. I found the guy had set up his target inside his garage, and was able to shoot down his driveway...

    Outside shooting

That's the advantage of shooting a bow over a firearm. Most of us are able to do some archery practice in our own yard. Luckily for me, I have a 200 yard range on my own property, and can extend that to 400 yards if I block off my driveway. Noise is another factor to consider.

    Hunting Industry Meltdown?

Here's an odd and at this point unexplainable side-effect of the "lockdown" in Minnesota. MN DOT reported that the highway fatality number during the past two months was almost double than during the same period last year. (I believe that it was 15/8). Though that is a small number to infer...

    Fed checks arrived on time

Geeze...and I'm the guy who started this thread. But, on the hunting issue, I've decided to get a WY tag with a partner that we have the points to draw this year. The MRS for WY deer stated that it may be best to sit out another year or two because of the lack of mature bucks (due to the...

    Truck Topper project

I'm done with the shop portion of the topper. I have to wait for more snow to melt so I can open the double doors to install it on the truck. I won't build the rear hatch until then because it has to line up with the tailgate. I'll post the photos of both trucks in a month or so if spring...

What Pistols Do You All Carry?

I carried a Colt Python on the job until the dept. shifted to Glock .40 cal. I could write my name on the head of a target with the Python, but it sure wasn't a CCW. I find my own Glock .40 to be too big, the excellent Kimber .380 too small, and the SIG P365 just right. I probably have a...

    Fed checks arrived on time

I was paying bills this morning, and was surprised to see that the "stimulus" deposit was made to our account already. On time and as promised; a first for the federal government.

    What is your favorite hunt?

It's hard to pick a favorite, so at this point in my life I suppose that it is the next hunt that I'm planning. A standout is "The Great Mouse Hunt" with my late younger brother Dave. I'll never get to spend time with him again, so I cherish those last few outings together.

    2020 Fishing

We cancelled trip in May ourselves, the resort we stay at hadn't cancelled us yet, but the border is still closed. The fly-in trip is in mid-June, so we will wait and see on that one. As far as this fall....the world could end by then, so I wouldn't sweat it until the time gets closer.

    2020 Fishing

My first Canada fishing trip in Ontario has been cancelled due to the present situation, but am still holding out hope for the fly-in trip further north in mid June. I can always fish right off my dock once the ice is out.

    What is your favorite hunt?

I thought that looked like northern Ontario fly-in country.

    What is your favorite hunt?

Mallardx2; Where did you get the blue walleye? I have caught walleyes all over but the only blue phase was in Conmee Lake of the Quetico Provincial Park (Ont.)

    Truck Topper project

I spent a fair bit more for this one than the first one that I did because I had to buy the wood. I also had salvaged the hardware from an old aluminum topper before, but had to buy those parts this time. I had to buy some fresh epoxy, and then the spar varnish is $53 a qt., etc. So, when...

    April 7...Decision Day

Thanks for the reminder C.C. I bought my pts. a couple days ago, but after one of my hunting partners dropped the ball a couple times by forgetting until it was too late, I do the reminder to him at least twice to get his app. in. We would have been hunting the unit a couple years ago but for...

    Opening The Can Of Worms...Coronavirus...

After a month in total isolation, my wife and I needed to restock on some things. Hence a trip to Wally-world and Menards. Shelley took a break from her quilting to make me a mask for braving the hoards. She's now making some more generic ones to drop off at the health center.

    Truck Topper project

The last one I made weighed only 40-50 lbs. Because of its size it is difficult to weigh, but my wife and I have no problem putting it on and off the truck. I expect this one to weigh maybe 10 lbs. more because the red cedar has more resin, and I put an extra 2x2 on the top rafters. I've slept...

    Truck Topper project

I am far enough on my truck topper project to post a few photos....since we're stuck her for a while it's something to keep me busy. I build a cedar strip topper for my 2011 Dodge a few years ago using northern white cedar that I cut off my own property. I picked up a 2011 GMC, and decided to...

    Truck Topper project

I've gotten far enough along on my new truck topper to post a few photos. I made a topper for my 2011 Dodge out of northern white cedar, so when I picked up another truck (2011 GMC) I decided to make another one. Since we are sequestered in the backwoods for the current zombie apocalypse I...

Social Distancing - What's Everyone Doing?

My wife took a break from her quilting to make me a personalized Corona Virus mask....or should I say a Crown Mask.
