What is your go to elk rifle / ammunition combo?

I'll take my .340 Weatherby shooting handloaded 225 grain Barnes TTSX bullets at 3000 fps. It has never failed me. I thought that my 7mm Rem mag was a elk rifle until I started shooting my .340

    Free Bullets

I have some Nosler bullets that need to find a good home. 2 boxes of Nosler 7mm 150 grain Partitions. 100 bullets total 1 box has been opened but I just verified that all the bullets are there. 1 box of Nosler 7mm 160 grain Accubond with 40 bullets. If you can provide them a good home...

300 PRC, 375 Ruger, wouldn't they be better if...?

It is hard anymore to come up with a cartridge design that hasn't been tried time and time again. They have to try and find a little nitch that the new one would fit into. I know that the 375 Ruger has quite a few fans over on a African Hunting forum that I am on. But as for it in a magnum...

At least he didn't use red LocTite on it.

Locktite on your rings and bases?

What amazed me when I got my wrench was that how over tightening I was torquing the screws. When I first set the wrench up and used it I couldn't believe that the screws were tight enough. Then after I thought about it it all made sense. One thing on the screws and Locktite, you should...

    California Ammo Check Blocked

Well at least for now California's law for background checks on ammo has been blocked by a court in all places California. They also mention about the importing ban on ammo from other states violates the federal interstate commerce laws...

Locktite on your rings and bases?

I've done it both ways with no problems either way. However on my heavy recoiling .340 Weatherby I used some blue Loctite on both the bases and the rings. I have noticed that on a lot of new rings sets that the screws come with blue locktite on them from the factory.

    Camo goose!

Pretty close to disappearing. The CP&W put up some nesting boxes on 20 to 30 foot poles. Since they have been up I have seen ospreys, bald eagles, and canadan geese nest in them

    Piebald Fawn

They are always cool to see. We had a young buck hanging around up here a long time ago but I never did hear what happened to him. Last year we found a piebald spike elk while hunting in Utah and since we were on a spike hunt we tried to set up for him on opening morning. However we...

The dumbest, or funniest thing you've witnessed in the field

Back in 1995 on our second javelina hunt north of Tucson my partner and I hiked up to one of the local peaks to do some glassing. Naturally after a good hike we decided to take a nap and when we awoke we were in the middle of a butterfly hatch. There were thousands of butterfly's all around...

    Rattlesnakes

For a real nice big one you need to head down south and get a Eastern Diamondback. They are quite a bit larger than the Western Diamondback and are a lot prettier to me..

    Hunting Industry Meltdown?

My new neighbor a Highway Patrol trooper here in Colorado said that she is writing twice as many speeding tickets now than she did before the shutdown. She said that reckless driving tickets are also on the upswing.

No More Kentucky Windage In The Field!!

The real problem is that you have no idea of what the wind is doing down range even with a 100 yard shot. Where you are sitting it might be a 5 mph wind from the east and by the time that the bullet gets to the target it is a 20 mph wind from the west. If I remember right one of the snipers...
