    January cow elk

I made my wife's favorite...Philly Cheese-steak sandwiches out of one of the tenderloins last night. They were excellent, but were still a bit chewy for TLs. I picked up 60 lbs. of sausage from the local processer, and will likely convert what whole meat I have into burger or sausage at some...

    January cow elk

We had our first steak from the cow, and that old gal was the toughest piece of wild game that we have ever chewed on. It still tasted good. That was a piece out of the rump and we just fried it up to medium rare, so I hope that the backstraps are better. We'll just make sure to marinade...

    New Ranger

IKC When viewing the latest pics that you posted I marveled at the increased ground clearance as well as the extra space the front tires have from the wheel well. I had some real gumbo clogging issues with my stock Ranger when antelope hunting in WY, and occasionally had to winch out of some...

    January cow elk

I had the same reaction to my first cow elk kill also CC. This cow was "dry", and had a big body, so I am suspecting that she was an old-timer. As such, most of it became hamburger and sausage. But, I have never had a poor eating elk, even a rutty old 6x6.

    How many states....

With a full freezer and a hunt in Greenland, I won't be planning on any western hunts this year. I might consider applying for a few spots for the random odds that I will never have enough points for otherwise. WY G deer for instance. Heck the odds are still better than the MegaMillions...

    January cow elk

Well, I at least got the photos...not much to show, but the video won't post. I should have pulled out my camera and taken a few shots of the long line of elk that was moving across the mountain over a mile away. It looked like when the big herds used to migrate out of Yellowstone. These...

    January cow elk

Let's give it a try. I was able to import the photos and video from my phone the same way that I do with my camera. I will try to link them as an attachment here. I did not take a pic of the dead cow as the first time I was close it was already loaded on the trailer. The 340 yard follow-up...

WYOMING 90/10 UPDATE | The best blog you'll read all year! - by Guy Eastman

Slugz; I don't know where you will find that 3 pt. WY elk tag anymore. Looking at the 2022 stats, it took 4 pts. for a NR GEN tag, with only a minimally small chance with less than 4 pts. I have used my WY pts. when ever I had enough to draw, but after this year will have to wait 5 more for...

    January cow elk

My friend took a panaramic video and a couple stills on my phone camera, but I don't know how to download them to my computer file. Any help here.

    January cow elk

I just returned from my January cow elk hunt. Once again I had to pay my dues in order to be successful....as it should be. I had spent 6 weeks in WY this fall and filled my bull tag during the archery season, and after some fishing ventures attempted to fill my limited cow/calf tag when the...

    September? WTF

I got married on Oct. 6th, and will be in Greenland this October on a caribou hunt. It will be my 50th anniversary, so I may need to look for a place to spend the rest of the winter while I am over there.

I just returned from my WY cow elk hunt. Once again, I had to pay my dues to be successful. I'll do a write-up in the Wyoming section.

    Who else is...

It seems that the years are starting to catch up with me. I worked on the local snowmobile trails on Monday and my body has been rebelling big time. I didn't hurt anything, but everything still hurts. But, endeavor to persevere....So I am headed back to Wyoming tomorrow to fill my cow tag...

    Recommended Day Pack

The Eberle F1 mainframe is the most comfortable pack that I have ever used. I already had the "duffle" from the Just One pack, and add the batwings when needed. The only thing that I don't like is that the meat shelf doesn't allow for sitting down on a slope and comfortably leaning back on the...

    Youngest son

My bud in Wyoming is a champion team roper. As far as rodeo goes, I'm sure that is about the safest event. But, he is on horses at the ranch all the time, and when I was last out there he was recovering from when his horse slipped and fell on him on a wet hillside. I used to ride horses on...

    Early winter in Minnesota.

buckbull, I agree on your view about hot-tubs. But, that is a small price to pay to keep my wife happy while I am off hunting or fishing somewhere.

    Early winter in Minnesota.

It's been a long week of plowing & shoveling with 40" of mostly heavy wet snow this past week. Things finally became somewhat manageable after I put tire chains. -20 this morning as an added bonus.

How did everyone's hunt go this year is it what you expected and are you going to change your plans for next year?

COV, way to go salvaging something out of a tough year. I like the photo perspective of the cow elk...it looks like he shot an eland. \ I finally downloaded some pics of my archery spike bull. Public land, 2 1/2 hours back on horses. My plan was to camp out for a week solo, but it all...

    New Ranger

I have almost 5,000 miles on my 2015 Ranger, and other than normal maintenance and new tires, have had no problems with it. I would upgrade to a new model, but the $$$$$ have held me off of making the move. I am sure that you will have plenty of opportunities to use and appreciate the new...
