    Friendly Hunting Competition???

I concede early! I’m comfortable with losing.....my wife always kills better/bigger stuff than I do! memtb

    Hammer Bullets

Mule3006Elk, I once read, cannot prove it’s validity, that Barnes’ do not give good/proper expansion on a dry test median such as dirt, wood, etc.. They expand properly when contacting something with liquid (flesh, organs, etc.).....needing hydraulics to begin the expansion process! Don’t know...

    Hammer Bullets

Mule3006Elk, I just went to the Hammer site, and looked again. I should have “broadened my horizons”. In my preferred bullet weight ( wanting to shoot heavier bullets).....the BC wasn’t anything to write home about. Stepping down to a bullet of similar weight to that offered by Barnes in the...

    Hammer Bullets

I too, use Barnes TTSX’s with complete satisfaction. There are two reasons I’ve “not” tried the Hammers. First, I have a bunch of TTSX’s and second, I will lose quite a bit of BC.....at least in my caliber. The Hammers have a fairly large following of very happy users! Go to the Long Range...

    Where you hunting this year?

Sorry to hear about your Dad! Thoughts and Prayers for your Dad, You and Your family. I just lost a close uncle to Covid a week ago yesterday....still hurting! For Mule Deer......right behind the house. For elk, lion, wolf, bear.....looks like we’ll be driving about 60 miles to set-up camp! memtb

    6.5 To kill an elk?

JimP, My wife, many years before we met, killed her first elk with a .243 Win. She soon (the next year) graduated to a .270 Win. After we met, and we had fantasies of hunting Alaska, Africa, as well as Wyoming.....we moved her up to a .338 WM. It took her about a year to get comfortable with...

    Favorite mule deer bullet?

Colorado Cowboy, If I may respond to your comment to Shane 13. I once, many years ago, used Sierra Bullets for hunting. In their defense, supposedly they improved these bullets substantially. My disdain comes from my “contact” with Sierra technical support (perhaps incorrect terminology). I...

    Favorite mule deer bullet?

Wife.....225 TTSX from .338 WM, Me.....250 TTSX from .375 AI. Sorry..... that’s all we have to hunt with! ;) If anyone asks.....same answer from Pronghorns to Moose! One rifle, one bullet, one zero......all game! We follow the “KISS “ philosophy! If I’m using my handgun, a 400 grain...

    6.5 To kill an elk?

JMO, unless a mono.....a150 grain bullet from a 30-06, is far from an optimal choice for elk! The heavier bullet in the .30 caliber should make the ‘06 even more desirable, except at extended ranges.....where neither are the preferred choice by more knowledgeable, ethical hunters of elk sized...

    6.5 To kill an elk?

Lots of people do......but, it wouldn’t be my first choice. My wife killed her first elk with a .243 Win.......but, she’d quickly tell you it’s not really an elk cartridge! If I were a non- resident, with this “potentially “ being my only elk hunt.....I’d start with .30 caliber and up! memtb

What would be your dream hunt?

Actually two...... African hunt, especially for Cape Buffalo in somewhat timbered ( not plains) country. Alaska, for a Coastal Brown Bear. Once that’s done......go back and do them with a handgun! While we’re fantasizing!! 😉 memtb

What Is Your Favorite Gun To Shoot???

To shoot!!! While I don’t shoot nearly as much as I used too, there are too many to pick “just” one.....There are handguns, rifles, rimfires, centerfires. Now “if” we’re talking hunting rifles, that’s easy.....I “only” have one! memtb

    Shoot or Pass?

There are several reasons that I would pass. First, the deer appears to be somewhat “skylined”, add to this the poor visibility.......know what is beyond your target! I’ve passed on a far better buck, because he was “skylined”! As I “will” get a bullet pass-through.....a risk I will not take...

    Advice for new .22 pistol

This may be a bit larger and heavier than you’re seeking.....but, it’d pretty darn hard to beat one from the Ruger Mark Series of handguns. Reliable, good trigger pull, and accurate! memtb

IWB Holsters - What are you guys using?

N82 ( as in N8squared)! Extremely comfortable, excellent security (retention) even if you take a spill or stand on your head. The only negative I can find, is with only one (1) belt clip, if/when removing or “dropping” your pants......the firearm will often rotate, and point in an unwanted...

    Cartridge extraction

gray bird, In the technical sense, yes, anytime you run the case into a “ full-length” resizing or “neck-sizing” die....you are resizing the case. Though, I think as a general statement, the term re-sizing is thought of as “full-length” resizing. As probably most are aware, “full-length”...

    Cartridge extraction

In looking at your primer photos.....I’ve observed far “flatter” primers with some factory ammo. Some primers have thinner or softer primer cups than other brands, which would show more flattening.....Winchester’s are noted to be rather soft. Unless, your “bolt lift” is quite difficult, if it...
