Preferred cartridge? Grip and grin pic added

Most any centerfire will do quite well, I personally recommend.24 cal. and up, that shoots pretty flat and that you are comfortable with. There is nothing special about an Antelope cartridge, use whatever your preferred hunting cartridge/rifle that you are most proficient with. My wife and I...

    Which One Would You Shoot?

For my wife, an absolute non-issue.....she’d “smoke” the non-typical, without a second thought. She would pass on a guaranteed B&C buck for a nice non-typical. For myself, as the one to the right (whitetail) isn’t that impressive....so mark me down for the non-typical as well. memtb

    Hammer Hunters

While I’ve not personally tried them, I’ve got a pile of Barnes TTSX’s, there are many users giving high praises on the Long Range Hunters forum! memtb

    What kind of hunter...

Asomewhat older has been with less than great knees! So, a UTV to get close to desired area, then limited travel on foot. Essentially.....just going through the motions! memtb

    When Was The First....

I can’t be certain of the exact age, but, I’m guess’n around 5 yo...... following my father and uncles through the thickets of Central Louisiana, continually getting slapped in the face by brush, black berry switches and saw briars. I probably left a better blood trail than some of the game...

    What is Trophy Hunting?

We can darn near eat anything.....therefore almost all hunting is “meat hunting”! For myself, Trophy hunting means taking an animal that “I” have determined it to be a “trophy” Obviously any animal making book would be a trophy! Then it comes down to the animal taken and what weapon used...

    Shed hunters on here?

I haven’t actually checked or verified the details, but I do know that interfering with the animals in their winter habitat is highly discouraged! Again, I believe that there are some areas closed to recreation to protect the animals, also many forest roads, two tracks, ect. are closed to...

    Shed hunters on here?

I don’t know about other states, but in Wyoming the season is placed to protect the animals during their wintering months to pretect them from unnecessary stress! Shed hunting is very popular here, and the hundreds of people entering the wintering feeding areas can severely harm animals already...

    Shed hunters on here?

Every year, the wife and I are gonna go......yet haven’t! Same with our Spring Bear hunt......every year it’s gonna happen! The sad thing is, we would be Bear hunting and shed hunting in the same area....less than 70 miles from our front door! But, I can tell you all about the many...

    I Found A OOP's Today

Jim, Glad you found it....sometimes it’s good to be lucky! The bullet may have stuck in the barrel, or depending upon the powder......an undercharge is much worse than an overcharge! Over the years, 53 or so, and I’ve made about every mistake you can make. If I can load for another...

    Bear Gun?

AKaviator, around these parts, if you shoot a grizzly @ 30 yards.....there will be some serious explaining to do! Unless you provide some serious bodily damage to the investigating officers! The Yellowstone Ecosystem Grizzlies have far more rights than we do! ;) memtb

    Bear Gun?

This is exactly the situation that many fail to consider! I see many posts concerning firearms for bear protection, many choosing a semi-auto, believing the fallacy they can get off many rounds. When in reality, unless you actually have the firearm in hand you may not get “any” shots off. If...

    Bear Gun?

If I’m hunting the timber, likely my S&W 460 XVR (8. 3/8”), running 400 grain cast at around 1500 fps. If in mixed terrain....I’ll be carrying my .375 AI, with 250 grain TTSX’s @ 3130 fps. My wife will be using her .338 WM, with 225 grain TTSX’s @ 2950 fps. If I get lucky with the...

11 years and 10 days....my father was a meticulous record keeper. Took him with a 410 slug (pure luck) while hunting with my grandfather! Taken in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana. memtb

    Why do you hunt?

I started when I was 15 or 16 out of necessity! It’s really not difficult.....I’m living testimony that you you don’t have to be a “rocket scientist “ to handload! 😁 I had no one to help me, just a burning desire to shoot, and I couldn’t afford to buy a box.308 Win. very often! Money didn’t...

    Why do you hunt?

Love to spend time out in nature, love seeing the seasonal changes during hunting season, love to see animals of all species in the wild.....and we love filling the freezer with game. And, I guess as a dedicated handloader/shooter, it brings a certain satisfaction taking game with my handloads...
