    Spotting scope vs. Nocs?

This may sum it up and give perspective. I have some 10x42s that only hang on my neck while hunting. While seriously glassing up high ( like two weeks ago for 5 days) my son and I have a x65 spotter and x50 bins. We swap them back and forth between what we are looking at. Usually he would...

Best phone to spotting scope device

Thanks for all the great info and lessons learned. I relearned a few this past week! Of note the S4 doesn't fit some of the newer larger phones. I went with the S4 only because that's what I could get my hands on. I had to modify the S4 to work with my Samsung galaxy Note 3 due to not...

    NW Colorado Scouting

Lots of green and good forage. Animals are fat. High elk calf survival rate this year. We watched 2 herds of 40-50 elk and each had between 28-36 calves in each herd. Mule deer look very healthy also. Some pics below.

Best phone to spotting scope device

Team, I'd like to contribute with pics from our scouting trips and I see the posted ones of "phones being connected to spotting scopes". I did the initial research and it looks like there is a small number of options. I have a Samsung note 3 (personal phone) and a Iphone 6 ( work phone) that...

    Ideal arrow weight calculation?

So I was taught by an old timer a while ago that 6.6 grains per pound of draw is the optimum weight. That being said pulling 70# that would come out to a 462 grain set up. For reference/comparison I'm shooting a FMJ 322 grn, broadhead 100 grn, nock 12 grn, fletching 18 grn and insert 16 grn...

    Let's SEE EM! Arrow Groups!

50 yard group, target arrows with no contacts. ( had a bet with the kid, he won) Also attached is a great use for the many boxes we seem to accumulate at xmas time! Works well for the broadheads and the cheese wasn't all that bad.

    Fixed vs Mechanical

Soooooo,,,,,,,I've been debating this the past few years and collecting data. I've poured over all the posts on here to include the Eastman's article a few issues ago on the subject. We have been shooting the G5 Montec 125g/100g forever. My reasonings for considering changing is. 1) I feel...

Four Dog Wall Tent Stove Review

Got the new stove and gave it the run through. Did a lot of research on type/models and went with the Four Dog. Easy to order online, reasonable/great price IMO due to the high quality of manufacturing and heavier gauge metal used. Feet go in via a slot vice a screw in leg so no more dirt in...

    Best packin tree stand

Team, Starting my research on a pack in type tree stand that I cant put over a water hole for elk season. Priority is size/durability as I need to get it in a little over 3 miles. In a perfect world it would work for archery and muzzleloader season. What say ye EF!

    OnX Maps

Used this for the first time, although maybe not to its max effectiveness while turkey hunting the past few weeks. Really worked well navigating a checkerboard of private and National Forest Land. Only issue I had was having to reload layers. I was in an area that had cell coverage and it...

    National Forest Turkey Down

I can vouch for that recipe now. Nice job Mr Rinellla. I may never cook turkey breast any other way again. Angel hair pasta with roasted garlic, basil olive oil caper mix went well with the bird.

    National Forest Turkey Down

I'd argue these are one of the hardest to find and kill. Lots of miles today starting before dark. Fan/ beard/ feet are in the borax. Gonna try the Meateater flattened, breaded in Panko then fried drizzle of lemon recipe tonight. Found him and two hens post water and morning feed heading up...

    Eddystone 1917 ID Marks

Team, Looking for some help to tell the story about this gun. I used to have a book but cant find it now. I think the inspector marks are the K2 and K4. Also confused with the made in England stamp, E for Eddystone on the barrel end and Eddystone label. I though this whole hing was made in...

Texas Hog Hunt......The good, the bad.......and the ugly.

So in the spirit of learning I'll keep the tone down. Many many options nowadays for the out of state first time hunter. Online, buddy system, asking around town, outfitters, farmers.....I think the list can go on and on. Regardless of the route you go......ask and call references....if they...
