    Eastern Sierra Pioneer passes

Bob Tanner, who owned Red's Meadows Resort & Pack Station passed away last week. I knew Bob when he first worked at red's in the summer of 1955 when I worked there for a summer while in high school. My family packed in deer hunting with him and his predesessor Arch Mahan for over 60 years. He...

    Prairie Dogs & Coyotes

Been awhile since I've shot them in Wyoming, as I remember no license or permit required. Right or wrong. Couldn't find anything in the regs.

    Just Returned Home-Colorado Unit 70 4th Season.

Just returned home and had a great trip. Learned a lot about hunting this unit for deer, as this was the first time for me. Have hunted it for elk, but about 40 miles east of this deer area which is in the western part of the unit. First I'll start with the weather. We got there 2 days before...

Who says that dogs don't rule the household? My Lab Jenny is 1 1/2 years old and absolutely rules here. Still has a lot of puppy in her, but learning fast. She is going to be a great dog.......when she grows up some more!!

    Getting Older

Well today is my 74th birthday and I somehow just don't feel like it. Yes I have aches and pains, but when I think about my upcoming deer hunt in a couple of weeks, they seem to fade away.......at least for awhile. LOL What makes me feel old is that my son turns 50 next month! I figure I have...

    Which Gun ?

Spent some time at the range this morning shooting 2 different rifles. One is my "old reliable" Ruger M77 in 25-06, the other in my newer elk rifle, a custom commercial Mauser in .300 Wby. Both shoot around 1/2 minute groups, both are topped with Leupold VXlll 4x14 optics. I shoot both really...

First Fall Snow in SW Colorado

Seems like the biggest problem we have here is it is to damn warm. In the last 2 weeks we have had lots of rain & snow above 9000', but it stays mostly in the mid 30's to 40 at night, just too warm for the snow to stick. More moisture forecast for next week. La Plata Mountains this am.

    Official Post Padding Thread

I had the same dilemma a few years back. I racked my brain, talked to my Mom & Sisters and still came up empty. My Dad loved to hunt & fish so I chartered a boat & guide and took him fishing. My Dad would rather catch trout than anything, so we went to a lake in California and caught a ton of...

    Wolves in Colorado

There was a recent article in our local paper (Cortez Journal, September 11, 2017, "Are Wolves coming back to Colorado?") about a recent presentation by Michael Soule', "a renowned conservation biologist" to the San Juan Citizen's Alliance. He stated that he believes it is inevitable and it...

    SW Colorado Bucks

On our home from town this evening and saw 5 bucks right next to the road about 1/2 mile from our place. Pictures could have been better, but one was a great buck with a drop tine. Funny thing is that they were fighting and one had a big gash on his rt shoulder.
